8 seconds is stellar. In the 1980's for a street driven vehicle, it was virtually unheard of. I rolled with the 10 second street driver club and there wasn't much out there to touch us. Danes 32 ford coupe was the best of our group. 'Cuda Mikes 340 powered HUGE nitrous '67 cuda was a great street racer and horrid ( inconsistent as hell ) at the track. He put it into the rice patties street racing and totaled it. He then bought a bike and put that on the bottle. Madness! The other 10 second street driven car was a 72 pinto with a 351 nitrous motor called Restless Pony. THAT was a very very consistent car. Mine was boom or bust. If I hooked it was lovely. Mostly I tried to take out the Christmas tree and crap myself. I remember when Bob Bunker drove his 55 on the street before he went 3/4 scale and started setting doorslammer records out here. Thunderchicken was a beast too. I miss them days. Killer cars and cheap gas

Say guys, let's drive to Monterey this evening! No problem, I got a pocket full of change and some cigarettes, let's go! Hey son, wanna drive up to Alaska to pick up your sister? She's afraid of flying back because when she went there, the plane had to make an emergency water landing. Sure, mommy, lemmee just get some cans of food in the trunk and I'm off tomorrow! Even a teenager could afford epic adventure road trips. :-D

Update: after 9 months, 11,000 miles, and one upstate NY winter, I'm still going with the best car I've ever driven. 
Two of my favorites - the Triumph GT6 and Volvo P1800/1800E.
There used to be a talented mechanic in my town who owned four GT6's. I made the mistake of saying "nice Spitfire" and for the next hour was taught everything there is to know about the GT6, including the fact that properly tuned, its top end is (supposedly) an honest to goodness 140 mph. I was skeptical so he took me for a ride. In about a half mile we were at an indicated 120ish mph. Maybe it would have gone 140 mph but one would need a superhighway because at 120 we were completely using both lanes of a divided bypass. Exhilarating like a rocket-powered roller skate. The Volvo's my choice for most beautiful production car ever. Never owned either though.

I once bought a gutted '57 Chevy drag car. Same guy had a Karman Ghia on a Camaro subframe for $250, everything set up for V8 except the rear axle needed to be narrowed. I let my buddy talk me into the '57 and I've regretted it ever since. Then the whole drag car fell through and I ended up selling the '57 back to the same guy for the same price. I had no interest in making a street rod of the '57, whereas the Karman Ghia would have been a great daily driver with a mild 350 or even a V6.
