Which reminds me of a story in a book that a drummer once gave me to read.
The memoirs of someone who assisted and supplied the Stones in the mid sixties until the mid seventies or so. This guy writes about how he gave Keith his first driving lessons in a big old Mercedes-Benz he'd bought. Supposedly it once belonged to Himmler. Richards crashed it twice.
It must have been a Mercedes Benz W150/770K coupe.
Which also reminds me of a documentary about a Lagonda LG6 Drophead Coupé 'Rapide', that had gone missing after WWII and was later seen with Montgomery in it.
Funny detail from the documentary (not in the preview above) was that the Lagonda was seen perishing at the side of a Amsterdam canal. I remembered seeing it there, having a look at it and wondering who would leave a car like that there out in the open.
There was a superb exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art a few years ago of the art, autos, furniture, sculpture, etc. of all five Bugatti brothers. That car was there.

The perfect candidate for a V8 swap. I've always wanted to build a V8 Volvo and a wagon would be my choice....... the ultimate sleeper.
We had a Volvo wagon with a 350 sbc in it here in Sacramento. The only real tell was the slightly canted hood to clear the distributor. Otherwise it was a total Q ship. His best buddy who went to the track with him had a Porsche 914 that also had a 350 sbc. They ran mid 13's back in 1986 when I was racing my Dart. Pretty respectable times for a grocery getter. The big block caddy powered Ford Ranchero was a blast too

8 seconds is stellar. In the 1980's for a street driven vehicle, it was virtually unheard of. I rolled with the 10 second street driver club and there wasn't much out there to touch us. Danes 32 ford coupe was the best of our group. 'Cuda Mikes 340 powered HUGE nitrous '67 cuda was a great street racer and horrid ( inconsistent as hell ) at the track. He put it into the rice patties street racing and totaled it. He then bought a bike and put that on the bottle. Madness! The other 10 second street driven car was a 72 pinto with a 351 nitrous motor called Restless Pony. THAT was a very very consistent car. Mine was boom or bust. If I hooked it was lovely. Mostly I tried to take out the Christmas tree and crap myself. I remember when Bob Bunker drove his 55 on the street before he went 3/4 scale and started setting doorslammer records out here. Thunderchicken was a beast too. I miss them days. Killer cars and cheap gas
My brother asked me to go through some family pictures for an aunt we're going to visit.
Then I noticed the old VW buses.
In the fifties, with a brother of my granddad, aunt, grandma and uncle behind the wheel.

1951 Sunbeam Talbot 90 drophead coupe
I've seen this one at the Petersen Automotive museum in Los Angeles, If I remember the story correctly it was a gift to Ms. Hayworth from a wealthy suitor. Its a gorgeous piece in person, Ghia knew how to design a beautiful car that's for sure. Love those old Delahaes and Delages too, stunning pieces of rolling art.

We were running 9 and 10 second et's in the late 80's / early 90's.
In 1995 or so, we showed up to Memphis with an 8 second 82 Firebird for the Hot Rod Magazine sponsored Fast Street Car shootout.... our car ran 8.50's and that qualified us in the middle of the pack for the Outlaw Street class. We lost to the guy that would win that year, Rod Saboury.
We eventually got that car to run 8.20's @ 171 mph before we sold it..... not bad for a home built tube chassis car that weighed 3200 lbs with driver. The car was all steel (except the hood) with a full interior and real glass windows. Engine was less than 500 cubes, cast intake, single 4 barrel and two stages of spray (fogger and a plate).
I remember seeing this truck in 2004 at Norwalk Ohio's "Night Under Fire". If you're impatient just skip to 2:00. It takes him a while to get staged.

Saw this truck at US 131 couple years ago, Best weinie roaster ever, makes me giggle every time I see video of it doing its thing......Outrageous beast that it is
Damn this is making me want to find the project car I always wanted to turn into a pro streeter. A mostly maligned but loved by me 1966 Ford Thunderbird. I love the turquoise Thunderbird in the front grill and the lines. The interior was something you just don't see in today's design. The back seat was epic looking. Putting a modern coyote with a TKO 600 rr tranny would be a recipe for fun
