Pick your favorite iconic car from any decade....

Way to many to pick just one, but this one is iconic to me. Audi Quattro Sport Group B form the 80's.

View attachment 2566559

Group B was an open class for rally cars in the 80's, The Audi ran at about 590hp, all wheel drive, in an 1700lb chassis. reports of 0-60 of 2 seconds on a dirt road. There was others, Ford RS200, Lancia Stratos and Fiats etc. Some where almost un-drivable they were so fast. Group B didn't last long, it was cancelled after a serious of driver/navigator deaths.

These days I'm into turbos.....

Funny you mention that. Back in the late 90's / early 2000's we saw the turbo make an appearance at the fast street car races. Guys like Nick Scavo, Monty Mikho and Doug Holmes showed up with single or twin turbo V8's, running 7 second ET's with little to no work between rounds. Otoh, with the nitrous cars between each round there was leak down testing, heating bottles, swapping spark plugs for warm up versus the new set for each pass, downloading runs from the data logger etc..... it was a full time job between each round.

So, this weekend I'm picking up a 5.3 liter LS engine, PCM and harness. My goal is a single turbo 5.3 for my 10 second Camaro..... I should be able to maintain the same ET's, or maybe a little quicker, with a smaller and more streetable engine than the 13 to 1 BBC that's under the hood now.

Making power with turbos is all about precise control of fuel, spark timing, and intercooling to make as much boost as possible without breaking stuff.

I don't know the specifics about the capabilities or options you'll have with your LS engine and PCM but I understand you have full programming control.

I have a Megasquirt system that I like because I can program everything with a laptop and the tuning software eliminates the need for me to need to learn how to program manually.

Making power with a nitrous engine required the same control of fuel & timing. One slip up and you'd run over parts in a hurry.

I'm going to start off light and work my way up on the power level. The crew chief from the fast car team i was on owns a speed shop here in town and does a fair amount of turbo LS swaps, so I'll be having him help me out with this one.

When I was in high school I subscribed to Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines and was constantly awed by level of skill and amount of hard work that was required to make a 4,000 lb car that could be driven on the street, go 1/4 mile from a dead stop in less than 10 seconds.

It was also iconic to see green plasma shooting out the header pipes halfway down the run. It meant the aluminum pistons were vaporizing and a lot of $$$ was quickly disappearing.

Which reminds me of an iconic hot rod from those days.

I'm planning to add a turbo to the NA engine in my Volvo. There is very little compression difference between turbo and NA blocks... so I just need the manifolds, piping, and computer from a turbo car. I use to run little turbo motors in the 80s, rebuilt a few too.

My turbo engine is the Ford 2.3 Lima engine from the 80's T'bird turbocoupe and SVO Mustang. A lot of guys use Volvo parts on these engines. A Volvo twin cam head is a relatively easy bolt on and the Volvo intercoolers and associated parts seem to work well.

Keith Richards' 1965 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur Sports Saloon, built specially for Keith, who liased with the coachbuilders to have secret compartments built into the coachwork to keep his 'valuables' safe and away from prying eyes.

This is the car from the infamous 1967 road trip to Marrakesh, that began with occupants Brian Jones and Anita Pallenberg very much a couple, and ended with occupants Keith Richards and Anita Pallengberg very much a couple

Keith owned the car until comparatively recently, and it was sold at auction in September 2015 for £763,100.00

that twin cam set up bolts right up to my block too. Pretty sure I'll stick with the 8 valve version, but it is a possibility.

I'm still bringing it up to speed. Replacing things that should have been done years ago... Carrier Bearing and pinion yoke this week, next up is brakes and some of the lines all around, but I plan to replace all the wearable parts suspension and steering wise too so I might do everything front, then everything rear... also need to replace/rebuild the AC system. It is all there but bypassed so I'm assuming it is all toast.

Just scored some early 240GL 14" alloy rims (Corona) and a like new iPd 25mm anti-sway bar kit for cheap from a local guy. I'm going to put some Mastercraft Avenger G/T 215/70r14 on the rims after I clean them up, maybe pick up a set of skinny snows for winter to mount on the 14" steels it currently has.

I'm also looking at an 84 240GL wagon in silver with tan leather on the cheap. parked at 150k, ran but currently won't start.
