My father in law has one of these. First one I had ever seen. He's trying to sell it now, but I can't imagine anyone wanting one. Studebakers were some odd shaped automobiles.

My grandparents had two Studes. A Lark, which was my grandmothers complete with plastic seat covers .... oooh the 60's

. . . And my grandfather had an Avanti.

(His looked as near enough like this it makes no difference. I'd swear this was his if it was sold in Sac.)
His had a 350 Chevy with a turbo 350 trans. His daily driver was a green Ford Ranger XLT Camper Special.

They went from those nice cars to a Chrysler K car with a 4 banger for Grandma and a 1980 GMC 2500 with a 454. I don't know how many exhaust manifolds I helped him change until he let me put in a set of long tube headers. He let me put on a performer manifold, 650 holley and a mallory uni-lite eventually as well. He pulled a 5th wheel all over creation and loved those mods when he went out on his first trip. Better torque, power AND (very slightly) gas mileage. I was a favored grandson for a bit.

I bought this new in '92. I still have it. It's great fun, especially on mountain roads.

You'll have to pick between the 440/6 or the Hemi, since you can't fit both under one hood.

The car in the pic is the Hemi, although I wonder how it can run with such a tiny air filter on it.

you could get it with the special Shaker hood available for that combo back then

I'm not disputing the Hemi being available for the 'Cuda. I know they exist, my old neighbor had possibly one of the rarest Hemi Cuda's ever built... a 71 HC convertible. Chrysler built 7 of them, his was one of 5 with the automatic trans.

Anyway, my point was you're not going to have a 'Cuda with 440/6 Pack on the shaker scoop and a Hemi under the hood.... unless someone really phucked up during assembly.

The photo in post #145 is not a Hemi, it's a 440, much like the emblem on the shaker indicates. The window sticker in post #151 shows that particular car started life as a 383 car but was optioned to have the dual quad Hemi instead..... also with the 4 speed, disc brakes, rallye wheels and a vinyl top. The only thing I don't see on that sheet is what rear gears it came with.

Iron headed 350 weighs 575 lbs. Not sure what the ZL-1 weighed.

I do know that a 500 cube Cadillac engine weighs 100 lbs less than a 454 does.

This one's pretty Iconic; !913 - 1916 Stutz Bearcat. This one's sporting the optional wire wheels (a $250 option). My paternal grandfather (who, according to my Dad, was quite a gearhead) had one. A 1915 or '16 model, I think. My grandmother made him get rid of it, in the late '20s. I imagine riding in that passenger seat wasn't her idea of fun - especially in a Philadelphia winter. He reluctantly sold it to some guy who swore he knew how to drive. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to drive very well; on the way home to New Jersey, he managed to drive it off the Ben Franklin Bridge and into the Delaware River. Dad said Granddad was very upset... So, If you REALLY want A Stutz Bearcat, I know where there's one, free for the taking...
