Sun City, AZ...lots of these boy toys around...the 77 year old boys are having fun reaching back to another era.

No harm there!

I could have lots more pics of these beautiful old chariots, but I'm trying to spend less time looking for my phone/camera, and more time 'looking up'.

Looks like it has a bit of a German cousin in the Opel Blitz.

The new stuff will never have the style and personality of a truck like that.

Hopefully there's a single turbo LS and a 6L80E powertrain tucked under the hood of that..... :D

PERFORMANCE
The original engine has undergone a complete transformation, having been completely rebuilt with brand new parts throughout and tuned to perfection. The standard car now produces over 30% more power than the original unit. The engine's outer body has been sandblasted, powder-coated and painted, whilst the oil filler cap is colour-matched with the car's exterior paint selection. The power increase is perfectly mated to a four- or five-speed manual, or four-speed automatic transmission that channels the car's energy through every shift, encouraging you to change gear, simply for the pleasure of it.

  • Engine size (cc) 1275
  • Maximum power (bhp @ rpm) 71 @ 4600
  • Maximum torque (lb-ft @ rpm) 88 @ 3100
  • Top speed mph (km/h) 90 (145)
  • Acceleration 0-62mph / 0-100km/h (s) 11.7
  • CO2 emissions (g/km) 184.7
  • Combined mpg (l/100km) 43 (6.6)
  • Compression ratio 10.1:1
  • Cylinders 4
  • Valves per cylinder 2
  • Length (mm) 3055Width (mm) 1470
  • Height (mm) 1330
  • Wheelbase (mm) 2035
  • Luggage capacity (l) 17.2
  • Fuel tank capacity (l) 34
  • Curb weight (kg) 740
  • Turning circle (m) 8.7

GM recently sold Opel. Opel is now together with Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall.

I've only seen the GT around here, never this one:

The Manta was the replacement for the Kadett. I think it was introduced around 1972 or 73. I worked at a Buick dealership washing and detailing cars back then. A fully loaded Manta was around $3400. We called them a poor man's Beamer. I was driving an Opel GT at the same time and have been an Opel fan ever since..

We called the Opel GT a poor man's Vette. Guess Opel was the place to shop for the financially challenged.

Yep, the same man who designed the Corvette Sting Ray also was the chief designer for the Opel GT. It was a mini Vette with a four banger in it. Here is one I restored about 10 years ago. The goal was not to make it into a show car, but just a respectable driver.

This car was at an Opel event in Palm Springs. The chief designer and his team signed the car.

I sold this car a few years back and regret it now.:(
