The Manta was the replacement for the Kadett. I think it was introduced around 1972 or 73. I worked at a Buick dealership washing and detailing cars back then. A fully loaded Manta was around $3400. We called them a poor man's Beamer. I was driving an Opel GT at the same time and have been an Opel fan ever since..

Yep, the same man who designed the Corvette Sting Ray also was the chief designer for the Opel GT. It was a mini Vette with a four banger in it. Here is one I restored about 10 years ago. The goal was not to make it into a show car, but just a respectable driver.We called the Opel GT a poor man's Vette. Guess Opel was the place to shop for the financially challenged.
