Not that I have 60 bucks to burn but I've been considering replacing the stock mint color (3-ply, middle ply black, see pic below) pickguard of my Fender Am.Pro Pbass with a black one (Fender 3-ply, middle ply white). I like the bass as it is but a black pickguard would perhaps spice it up a bit. Or not. What do you think? No, tort is out of the question.

Never black on a white bass. It would be so wrong. There are pearl choices that would work much better, preferably a warm colour - maybe cream or gold. I know you ruled it out but tort would be my only choice on a white bass.

I put this aluminum swirly pickguard on a several years ago and it's held up well.

Since this is just opinion
When debating the same on my white pbass.

white - didn't match Olympic white and it annoyed me. I'm a former plastics color matcher.
black - made it look cheap
gold - a coworker told me it looked like it belonged in Elvis' band, then that was all I could see about it too
tort - looked good, didn't look cheap or cheesy. Darkish tort.

I dislike tort, but it looked best and least cheap/cheesy on white.

Depends on what you want. To say it doesn't look sharp or very R&R with a maple fretboard is flat out wrong.

I'd keep the mint personally. And put a black one one the white on white

Gold would look awesome too.
