Pickup cover on a P bass question.

I'm in the P bass cover on club. So far so good. I know there's really no real reason to have them on....other than putting some foam to mute the strings a bit. But my golly gosh they look good. I always find the sweet spot for me is between the pick up and neck and sometimes I get lazy and rest my thumb on the pick up and play above the pick up. The PU cover keeps me in the sweet spot. Since I play in a 60's band the covers add that bit of cool factor, although Joe/Jane public probably don't care.

I took the covers off my Precision the day I bought it. They are still in the sock drawer 52 years later.

I didn't see anyone with the covers on their P basses back then. I play over the pickup so the cover would have got in the way, but that's not why I took them off. No covers was cool, gave a mean, getting down to business, look to the bass.

Thanks. It's an American Pro neck that I sprayed with Amber nitro to give it a more retro look. The body is from "Booboo Guitars" here in the UK that sells blemished bodies.....usually a knot in the wrong place. So I sprayed it in nitro sunburst....rather poorly, so I have another body on the way (Did I mention they were cheap??). Vintage '63 pick ups and custom wiring loom.
