Pickup magnets position with strings?

Hi all,
Just wondering if the position of the string between the magnets of the pickup (on a jazz bass in this case) makes a real difference in sound?
I noticed that on most of the Fender Jazz 2008 that i saw, if you want a string spacing of 19mm you have the E string over the inner magnet instead of between the 2.
I have the same thing on mine, tried with different positions and doesnt seem to change anything.
Do you guys have the same issue, and does it make a difference to your ears?
Cheers

Yes.

No difference. At region where the strings pass through the magnetic fields, the fields from the bipole setup blend together to form a more contiguous field so it makes perfect sense that there should be no difference.
