Short Circuit is a cult classic (I think), movie put out in the 80's about a civil defense robot (Johnny #5) who gets hit by lightning and becomes human more or less.

when i was in high school, i was a member of the school newspaper class. part of our grade was selling advertising to fund the paper, and one of my regulars stopped buying up ads. undaunted, i took out an ad in the school paper showing johnny five wishing everyone a happy holiday. :D

i'm seeing it soon, but probably not til sunday at least. it would have been midnight tonight but my wife was working (nurse on graveyard). i think my wife might be actually more excited to see this movie than most kids. the trailer itself is already her favorite movie.

What, because there are two robots (20 years apart, mind you) designed with features utilized to be able to mimic / display human emotions exclusive of voice, and that is your main gripe? That's a pretty shallow argument. the only things that are similar are the treads and the fact that the eyes are camera lenses...what else is a robot supposed to "see" with??? Do you condemn the Mars Rover for the same things?

I was watching a Pixar special a few weeks ago, and the main focus was how "original" wall-e was. If you'd take a moment to compare #5 side by side w/ wall-e, you'd see it's not just his binocular eyes that are similar. It's the same thing, just tweaked a bit.

These days, it's easier for Hollywood to re-hash the old (Get Smart for example) than to truly come up with something original, that's all. Shallow as that may seem, we've become a society of convenience rather than originality, IMO.

Looks pretty entertaining .... however I'll wait a couple of months and see it at the $2.00 theater. (like I do with all movies)

Yea, call me cheap, but for 2-bucks ... even if it's bad ... it's about the price of a movie rental, so no big loss.
