"Robot" goes back a little further than you might think.

"The acclaimed Czech playwright Karel Capek (1890-1938) made the first use of the word ‘robot’, from the Czech word for forced labor or serf. Capek was reportedly several times a candidate for the Nobel prize for his works and very influential and prolific as a writer and playwright.

The use of the word Robot was introduced into his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) which opened in Prague in January 1921.

In R.U.R., Capek poses a paradise, where the machines initially bring so many benefits but in the end bring an equal amount of blight in the form of unemployment and social unrest."

Out of all the movies I've seen in my entire life, this one definitely ranks in the top 5, maybe even number 1. I absolutely loved everything about it. It exceeded every high expectation I previously had for it, and it was hands down the most beautiful movie and story I've seen.

I HIGHLY recommend this film to ANYONE.

Just got back from seeing it. My wife and I loved it. It was definitely a cute movie and had a lot of funny moments, but I think the thing that stood out for me is the fact that in a movie with practically no human dialogue, you still care about the character and become engrossed in the story/his situation. Honestly I think that's a rare thing in a lot of movies WITH dialogue. So especially for that to happen in an animated film, Pixar definitely has a great thing on their hands.

The animated short before the film was great too. One of the best I think.

yeah, the short was awesome. spoiler: think those guys played some portal before thinking it up? :D


absolutely great movie. i didn't want it to end. :( but... after not too long, i'd start looking like the humans on the axiom. :D

I went in without ever seeing a preview.

Absolutely great movie. Great message... it might actually touch a generation of calloused youth and inspire some care for the environment... and that's hard to do these days!

Regardless of the messages the movie had, (Or maybe because of them) it was an exceptional movie! I might even have to go see it again.

Michael Ian Black just wrote a funny review of the movie and brings up some good points: it didn't seem like EVE needed to have a blaster at all, and...uh... well, the second point involves the human characters and i guess would constitute a major spoiler. do some searchin' for the blog entry cuz i don't recall if it had language issues, which means it probably did.

I remember studying Pixar's research papers back in the early nineties, when Toy Story was just a glint in their collective eye... Very cool company, always puts out a quality product.
