PJ bass yes or no?

I am considering buying a washburn t14 PJ bass. Anyone have any advice on Pj bases .

They're inexpensive, and Washburn is generally considered a good brand. I'd say go for it.

I used to own a Euro Spector (PJ) and a Fender American PJ. Loved them, but I used their P pickups solo’d 99% of time.

PJ's have been my go to since 1985 (until I grabbed a Ric). Is it the the be all, end all....nope. It's what I'm comfortable with.

My early 80’s Yamaha bb3000s is one of the few p/j setups I really like, they somehow got it right with both pups wide open, it sounds like it can cut through anything and very well balanced between the two pups. My other p/j is a fretless jazz bass build I did with Dimarzio model p/j pups, they work really well together too. Most p/j pups don’t balance well together and that’s what you have to consider. The MM Caprice do a good job also… but again it’s not like a standard P pup and J pup are supposed to blend properly anyways imho

There’s a cool video on YouTube of a customized t14. The body was reshaped. Washburn should really consider something like that.

My first bass was a PJ Guild Pilot. I’ve owned 2 pedula mvp4 PJs. 1 with Bartolini’s one with EMGs. I’m building a custom PJ with Cliff Bordwell using Nordstrand pickups, I have a set of PJ EMG GZRs going in an Ibanez. I’m a fan.

I had what I consider a very good PJ bass at it's time, a Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio which came loaded Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pound pickups. It kicked liked an angry mule. However I noticed it sounded best with the J pickup barely on at all. Any more than a quarter and the sound got thinner plus there was more noise. The J pickup did not add sound, it subtracted. Later I read the bass expert from Bass Gear magazine say the same thing about PJ's so I wasn't crazy. Better off with a P or a J.

I have some basses ... a Precision, a Jazz, a Stingray and a PJ which is an American Elite that I let all passive with VVT configuration ... and series/parallel switch for both PUs ... is an amazing bass, what I mean is go for it as is a very versatile instrument. I went passive just to try, since I was not playing active most of the times and I think it has improved the sound. This American Elite has very good craftsmanship may be you can find a good deal on one ... I did change the P pickup with a PV63.

They're alright. I'm a purist and enjoy having the Precision and Jazz separately. Everything can play whatever genre you want it's just up to the sound you're after.
