And what's this? Microtilt? I've never dealt with one of these before.

New It has an E92---- serial number so mid to late 80s, right? For a nearly 30 year old bass it's in amazing shape. It came with really old rounds that looks like they've been on forever and there isn't a mark on the fingerboard. I restrung with light pressurewounds. All the controls are good. The tone knob has a center detent, which is interesting. The bridge looks like it isn't stock, but it works. I bought a hipshot a-style bridge for it that I may sell cuz this one seeme fine. Alltogether a damn fine bass. And what's this? Microtilt? I've never dealt with one of these before.

I'd hang on to that fretless JBS.

The early passive JBS pickups had the larger pole piece pickups (like my 1985), not sure about the later ones, maybe they used normal size pole pieces.

Here's a pic of a fretless that looks close to yours with same kind of bridge:

Also an active JBS with same kind of bridge:

The bridge looks like the ones used on some of the Fender HM and Heartfield DR basses, maybe some other Fenders as well.

The older JBS had the typical bent plate Fender bridge.

Also, my earlier JBS did not have the Microtilt neck adjustment.

The Detent you mentioned on the tone control probably means it has the TBX.

So I get why there's two volumes and a switch. In the middle position, you can't solo either pickup. If either volume is all the way off then the other one is off as well. Maybe that's something wrong with the electronics but that's fine by me. Switching to the solo'd pups sounds fantastic. In the PJ position, it allows for the blendiest blending I've ever heard on a two pickup Fender. Very precise changes by blending the two volumes. And with the tone at the center detent, it's as bright as my other PJ. If I roll the tone up all the way it's like a monster. Super growly. I've been blown away by Japanese Fender precisions and jazzes before, but this is something else. Amazing bass.

The tuners are also excellent. Very precise.

The pickups are pretty low. I can hear crunchy 30 year old foam underneath them if I press on them. I'll try sticking some mousepad under later today.

Glad you went for it. Sounds like a good find! Have fun...

Just "finished" my surf green PJ. When I bought it, it had a gold bridge, gold/black pearloid knobs, a chocolatey brown wenge neck/headstock with silver inlays, shiny chrome tuners and a modern looking tort guard. It felt and sounded great, but I thought the aesthetics were a little mismatched. I've always loved the look of the vintage Precisions styles, and this is exactly what I had in mind when I originally bought it.

Mods:
- Almost exactly the same Warmoth neck (only the frets were different specs), but in roasted maple with an upgraded dark rosewood board
- Hipshot Vintage Bridge (chrome)
- Chrome knobs
- Hipshot Ultralite tuners (the main reason this bass now weighs 8.5 lbs)
- Mint green pickguard
- LaBella 760FL Deep Talkin' Flats

I love the surf green/sea foam green color. I just modded my Deluxe today with some new pickups in the P position. Dimarzio DP122. It made the sound much more aggressive and gritty which I thought it could use. It sounds much better to my ears.

So below is my recently finished Mahogany Body/ Status Graphite fretless. It is awesome but I'm having some sort of loading issue with the pickups. First time I've used WD mini pots, all 500k audio taper. Never had a problem before but with both pickups up the jazz seems to ake over and backing it off gives my almost all precision pickup. Anyone know if a linear taper pot would work or should I just put different 500k audio pots. Kind of seems like one is give less of a resistive load that the other?

Anyway, bass play great. Ultralight tuners, unlined carbon fiber neck, Quartersawn African Mahogony body with a hand rubbed finish. Delano P/J pickups and a gotoh bridge. Have some broken in Labella 760fl's on too.

Those aren't active pickups are they?
