Oh, yeah... she's a monster at just under 9 lbs (4075g).

Nine pounds, even with a chunky, Precision neck and that slab o' metal for a bridge?! Well then, I say unto thee…DAMN!

Nice One. How is the Sound of the Geezers compared with the standard ones? I have a lil GAS in modding my Dyne.

In the AVHR Jazz, the standard pickups are Am Vintage '63 P and Am Vintage '74 J. I thought they sounded pretty nice, so I will keep them for another project.

Compared to those, I think the Geezers sound a bit stronger in the low end, more thick/rich in low-to-mid range, and they have a more prominent growl when pushed.

I don't have any direct experience with standard Aerodyne pickups to compare.

thanks for the reply. the dyne pups are standard ones and are suprisingly strong in output. but somehow i am missing something in that sound. maybe the geezers will fit that.

PJ Video Clip of the Week:

A classic... "All Blues" played on a Mexi Fender Deluxe. Very tasteful solo at around the 4 minute mark. Great display of PJ tone!

Thanks for posting - a really beautiful player. His solo and vamping in general displays a deft use of 'space' and lyrical dynamics. If I were to purchase a new Fender P/J w/a P body - that would be the bass. I saw/heard Devin Hoff playing one a year ago at our Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fesistival (which is going on this weekend - I saw/heard T-bone Burnett yesterday) playing with Cibo Mata (w/Nels Cline, Yuki Honda's hubby) on guitar. He's a killer player and that bass delivers some great tone.

So I just did a quick search on the Deluxe P and see that the MIM version (badged Special, not Deluxe) differs in a few ways from the US made Deluxe other than perhaps the active electronic harness? I'm guessing it's the same pre with a passive switch and two 9v batteries instead of one. Can those who know clear this up?

This might help. Here's their respective service diagrams. I'd comment further, but for all I know this electronic doohickery runs on Unicorn Rainbow Farts and Keebler Elf Magic. (GeezI'm with Stupid!)

It appears from these schematics that what I thought is true (9v vs 18v w/passive switch) - I'd have to A/B both basses before I could make a call because I like the features on the Deluxe. Anyone out there who owns either with feedback?

Just put this on layaway today, my first PJ was going to be an Ibanez SR650 but after playing this at guitar center, the bass just screamed at me wanting me. It's a Washburn XB120.

Current strings that are on them are D Addario Chromes and for once the Chromes Sounded great on that bass!!
