This is my idea of a Fender PJ bass - I would like to be in if I can.

Fender Highway Precision Neck (The P)
Fender Road worn Jazz Body (The J)
Bassline pickups
BAD ASS II bridge.

Lovely bass LennyJ! The PJ Club is about celebrating the PJ pickup configuration though, body style is irrelevant. If you wanna be in, ya gotta post a pic of a bass with PJ pickups that you own (or owned).

Either way, you are welcome to hang out here all ya want!

I do understand but what you call a PJ to me in the old days was called a California Precision, or now sometimes a Hotrod Precision.

You know PJ is not just a "Precision" thing. There are many non-P-bodied PJs, including Fender's J-bodied Reggie Hamilton sig model and Vintage Hot Rod Jazz, as well as their Aerodyne and Jaguar basses. And I don't keep track of all the other brands (Peavey, Spector, Warwick, et al) that use PJ pickup configurations in their own body styles.

But I also appreciate a P neck on a J body.

PJ pickups in a J body with a P neck. Maybe this would count as a double PJ (or J-PJ-P, or J/P-PJ)?

Yeah, an other chance to display my life's love.

The one and only.

My Ibanez Mikro, which I mutilated with various visual mods as well as a new matching black bridge and a pair of EMG Geezer Butler P/J pickups:

The switch is the remains of a failed attempt to make a series connection between the pickups, that finally resulted in me just leaving them in parallel mode and bypassing all controls wiring the pickups directly to the output.

So the knobs and switch are only there for the sake of looking fancy at the moment, and although I don't really have much use of them either, I will probably sooner or later go for another attempt at making them work as first intended.

Yes! A fine example of a PJ... looks well loved. Diggin' on the chicken head knobs!

Thanks for further clarifying what a PJ is... this subject has been much debated and long since settled. The pickups make the PJ.

They can come in many shapes and sizes, but the common thread tying all PJ's together is the offset split coil combined with a single coil. The only concession is that a stacked or split J pickup is allowed.

A full on side-by-side humbucker or MM style pickup would warrant a disqualification. I also assert that there should not be any additional pickups installed (other than maybe a piezo bridge).

My PJ selection is simple, and getting fine tuned now...

Active.

Passive.

Pending arrival of new stock so I can snag one... Fretless. Yes I am wanting one with the new head stock.

Tim Commerford uses em, but yeah I don't know too many who do use em.

Yeah, PJ has only to do with the pickup configuration, at least in the context of this thread.
Hence why there's every brand of bass in this thread, not limited to Fenders.

Just finished getting this one together. I wanted a funky 70's inspired PJ, and I feel like I got that vibe. Sound reminds me of my old yamaha bb3000s.

Yeah I understand and as we remember a P Bass usually means a Precision and a J Bass usually means a Jazz. Us older guys forget about configuration - we did not have that unless we did it ourselves.

I guess we need a "Fender Jazz/Precision Club" that covers the neck/body issue and the combination of pickups of a P or J bass. And either way is ok - P body J neck or J neck and P body, with any pickup configuration.
