Wow, that's a great, original build. Even the details, the Mar us Miller type pickguard and the angle going through the pickup, the flat black over the Ash where you can see the grain texture, the sharper more modern corners... man I'm starting to dream up a build. Well done, sir!

Here's a shot of the back pre assembly. I contour the belly area and neck heel so you can get all up to the 22nd fret.
But this is my first PJ in quite some time. I really like the Dimarzios. After messing with pick heights and the individual pole pieces I got the two pretty balanced out. Great burp from the bridge pickup and bark from the neck.
I may do another with the bridge in the 60's position.

This pic had Nords in it. It's now got Bill Lawrence (Wilde) P46, J45 and all passive. I had a KellingSound vari-tone wiring, but I like the plain deal better.
UPDATE: so now that I've owned this Yamaha 2025X for a little under two years, I can say that it is, indeed, the best passive 5 string bass I've ever owned or played. The more I gig and rehearse with it, the more I appreciate the choices that were made with respect to voicing the electronics and making an organic whole that exceeds the sum of the parts. The complaints of Ed Friedland and others about the 60hz hum in the bridge pickup when soloed ultimately don't amount to much when playing in an ensemble setting, and rolling the tone back adds a lot of girth and guts. The P sounded good enough that I sold my 1965 Precision with no reservations, and the J has me toying with the idea of putting my 1974 Jazz on the market. And the middle position is definitive.
But the real test came this week when one of my DREAM basses suddenly popped up: a 1996 Warwick Fortress Flashback 5, in fantastic shape, and well below market value. The five basses I have right now are the best five I've ever owned, and one would have to go for another to come in. The logical choice would be the Yamaha, since it, like the Flashback, is a passive 5 that's aimed at classic tones. I've been lusting after a Flashback for decades...but I simply could not conceive of moving the Yamaha out the door. It does everything well, and is a JOY to play.
So that was that. The Yamaha is everything I could want in a P/J instrument.

2012 Yamaha BB2025x, the flagship of the BB line. Got it three weeks ago and I think it may be the best bass I have ever owned. Haven't been a huge P/J fan, but the tonality and responsiveness of this passive P/J set is unreal. Gives back exactly what your hands put in. Got me thinking I need to add a J to my fretless 1980 Fender P.
