I was giving an old band leader many years ago a drubbing about his suit/tie before a local tv live appearance . Just before we went live he turned to me and said ... "man I'm glad your sitting next to me in tv land , cause you have a face made for radio".

I don't get it. I realize this is supposed to be humorous, but when he said your bass was "Player's Grade"; is that somehow an insult?

He was just saying I couldn't get top resale $ for it. He didn't even mean it as an insult. Which is what made my response more satisfying somehow. You don't want someone telling you your mom is vintage but kinda beat up & has many aftermarket modifications but is still desirable, but her resale value is diminished. We are not polite men, generally speaking.

My drummer said he thought my '72 Gibson was "player's grade", so I told him I considered his mother to be "player's grade". I think I might need a new drummer.

As my wife can attest, don't expect miracles with that thing. It's a catch all. Nothing more.
