Playing a Rickenbacker made me hate Rickenbacker

OP, sorry, re-read your post. You said the white plastic binding itself is discolored? That's probably just a sloppy binding scrape job prior to clearcoat. The "binding bleed" i was thinking of is actually staining of the maple body itself, presumably from some reaction with the binding glue, it looks like this:
I haven't seen this on any newer basses, I think it shows up only on the old ones. This one is probably early 70's with that checker binding and crushed pearl inlays. I'd still want this bass!
Please tell me that route between the control cavity and neck pup did not come from the factory like that??
Someone mentioned that they no longer do that......... I can't believe they ever did. That is some seriously amateur looking work.

You made me look at mine... not perfect I must admit but still I'm going to play the s.... out of this bass. But really for the perfect bass you need a very small and fine operation, and a bass like that will cost way more than 1300 USD.
