Playing while sick

Judging by the way my throat felt this morning when I got up, I'm guessing I'll be playing sick this weekend.

I just hope my voice isn't totally roached by Saturday night.

yeah Im a big fan of having a 5 gallon bucket on the side of the stage, never know with some of the food you get for free. after a few "hot dog" experiences I say no thanks and I get my own food some where else. some times I wish I had a wireless set up, have to do a number 1 really bad just run into the bathroom and keep playing while at the urinal. now thats rock n roll

I heard about a bassplayer that has carpal tunnel surgery the day before a gig. He couldn't find a sub, so he superglued a pick in between his fingers, and played the gig.

The pain the next day, he said, was horrible.

I've only played for many people twice, both at school, once in my BS rock trio as bass/voice, once with my comedy duo as voice/frontman, both times with sore throats.

Sucked, but worked through it.

I did a 3 set jazz fill in gig a couple of days after getting all 4 wisdom teeth out. man i was out of it.
I've also been suffering from irritable bowel for about 8 months after having a really bad food poisoning, finally its nearly gone. Mainly its given me horrible stomach cramps; i'd try eating a little plain food, drinking water, throwing up, wouldn't help and i'd just have to rest. One really bad gig was about 7 hours drive away - Did a big gig the night before and got up early to go in the car with everyone to the gig. No sleep also made the cramps and sickness worse. Threw up before i got in the car - threw up twice on the trip and just generally felt horrible for the 7 hour drive. set up with the band - full pa and 10 piece band with horns for a function gig. 3 sets - then stay in a nasty hotel. then 7 hour drive back the next day. i didn't eat anything the whole weekend and eventually was feeling great... better than everyone else who'd decided to go hard on the liquor after the gig

I played out with a pretty gnarly cold one time. Good thing for me at the time, I was still drinking. Even though my head felt like a 2 ton hammer had been slamming it all night the next morning, after I got a decent buzz going, and not over the top mind you, took my ills away. Like I said though, there was a penance to pay the next day. Thank god I'm sober now.

I was in Texas on a Big Band Dance Hall tour. Earlyer thatr day I felt fine but a couple hours before the gig I just started shaking and gettin sick everywhere. Well me being only 19 my buddy Joe of 68 years old said, "hey I got some stu ff that'll cure ya." He pulls out his medicine bag and starts hhanding me stuff.
THe start of the gig wwas goin kinda rough untill about 30 min in and right then I didn't know where I was at buyt I felt really good, and I would just be looki ng around everywhere, and the drummer th ought I was outa my mind...the point is I felt ok the rest of the 4 hour gig

Last month I had the worst stomach flu of my life and had to play a gig at a strip club...it was hell, but the show must go on.
