Please explain this to me...

I haven't gone to GC in 7 years for any sort of maintenance. They broke the input jack on my P when they swapped out the pick-guard for me and I had to take it back twice before it was actually repaired. Should've done it myself then. When I needed new P-bass pickups installed I took it to music go round. They only charged me for one pickup install.

I am getting a p bass worked on at guitar center, primarily, new pickup installed. I am getting a quarter pounder p bass pickup installed. However, they are charging me for a dual pickup install... Why?...

In my mind, it is a single pickup just split... Should I bring this up to them? Maybe I am wrong...

When it comes to crazy pre amps with a rediculous amount of wires I pay a guy to do the work for me. For passive basses I do pickup swaps myself. I don’t know if id trust the Staff at the Guitar center near me. There’s some decent tutorial videos available online. A p bass is as simple as it gets. I think you’ll enjoy that pickup though. I dig them

It's two separate cuts. Two times the chance to ruin a pickguard.

I charge $10.00 more for pbass versus a single cut pickup.

Yup...could have saved the money and bought a soldering iron AND pizza and beer. Not hard at all, some pickups these days don't even require a soldering iron, just plug them in.

I'm not sure about pizza and beer, I can't imagine it being more than twenty bucks to install a pickup, and where I am a soldering iron is about thirty CAD, hard to find sometimes too.

Beer and food are also pricey as all get out.

Invest in a soldering iron. Its not hard to do, you'll get the hang of it fast. Always nice to have.

True this! P and J passive pickups installs are pretty easy, as long as there's no preamp involved. There are TONS of video tutorials on how to do it too. And it's kinda fun!

Two spaces have to be routed, same as two pickups would.

I'm guessing this is what they're doing... however I'm pretty sure they'll use a template with both spaces in it. One template. So I'd charge that as one pickup... or are we charging by how many corners the space will have?

Still... if they do a good job and it's not a crazy amount, it'll soon be forgotten and I would not let it take away from my enjoying the new bass...

Nothing is bring routing, it already had the stock p bass pickups in it. They are just removing the old one and popping the new one in...

Installing a pickup on a P Bass takes about 15 minutes and is something you can do yourself with basic soldering skills.

I worked at GC for years. Whoever put it in the system messed up. It is not correct to charge for two installs on a single P pickup

The OP was just paying for some major discounts that I had gotten over the years by GC staff.

Invest in a soldering iron. Its not hard to do, you'll get the hang of it fast. Always nice to have.

+1 to this, swapping a p pickup is one of the easiest mods. Buy an iron, watch a tutorial, swap your own parts from now on. A worthy investment and your pickup swap is the ideal first project.

I keep wondering why people who are smart enough to use this website keep walking into Guitar Centers.

If your city is big enough to have a Guitar Center, your city has better options for having work performed on your bass.

Be thankful you’re not having them install two quad coil humbuckers- they would charge you for eight pickup installs.

There was a lot I was getting done to the bass and purchasing on top of the install. I didn’t realize it until after I looking over the receipt.

Please explain to me how I was “trashing them”. I asked a simple question because I was curious about a charge. That’s what forums are for... knowledge... in no way was I trashing them at all in my original post.
