Please help me picking a 5-string bass.

eyescream does yout Ibanez detune easily or not? Can it stand a 3 hour gig without tuning?

I haven't noticed if it does. Any tuning I've had to do is because of me screwing around with detuning it and accidentally knocking the machineheads around or due to the strings just stretching out a tiny bit as they age (which is normal to some degree).

I've played with it for 3 hours at a stretch, and haven't noticed any problems.

BTBs are, I'll admit, better quality instruments compared to the SRX series, and if you can find two of them in a store I highly suggest you A/B them against each other, as well as against the other suggested basses (cause there have been some good suggestions).

Hey cgworkman,

Don't sweat it pal. Yr comments were right on the money even if some disagree (which they're entitled to). I guess my point is...people, lighten up; the guy didn't tap dance on a Bible or anything. Good thing this isn't a political forum; things really could get ugly.

Wow, guys, take it easy! Do you know what I want? Simple: Lots of beer and a good sound in an instrument that stays in tune... :D I guess that's not very hard to get...

Some guy told me about a Washburn RB2602, i know it's a six-string, but he told me it was good, I don't know... What do you have to say?

thanks i appreciate it - i was quite shocked by the emotion in their responses - i guess it takes all kind.

If someone's slamming the bass i play i don't get offended - to each his own!!

:)

No offense intended of course, its just that here, most people are used to a mini-review of why you didnt like THAT instrument, just saying its terrible leaves it all up to interpretation, and when you read it, it makes you sound like you really dont have a clue. (I do it too once in awhile, everyone does...)

Yes like I said "Peavey Has two good basses, the Cirrus is one of them" they have a Bunch of Basses, Guitars, Amps, Heads, all the gear you could think of, and it all sucks, except for the Cirrus.

Im 5 string shopping as well..and the other day I stumbled across the Peavey Milestone, for a mere 300$. I thought it played quite nicely, had a great feeling neck and very good tone for such an inexpensive bass. Bang for buck, it's what Im leaning towards so far...and I never thought Id play a Peavey instrument. I like their amps, but Ive never liked their guitars (not even the Wolfgang...overpriced piece of crap), the Cirrus basses seemed ok, but more than I cared to spend on one, (the 6 string is way too fat for my lil ole hands), I realize that our preferences in instruments is all relative, but for me, Ive finally found a Peavey bass I would own and play.
Just my unsolicited opinion. ;)

The reason I was so shocked about some of your responses was the fact that this was just a casual comment. One posting mentioned Yamahas - I simply mentioned my opinion. That's all. The gentleman posting didn't get into details when he mentioned Yamaha - nor did I. It was simply a statement.

Then some of you seem to lose any maturity you might have by simply going off because I said something negative about one Yamaha model. The posting I was responding to was a simple one - as was my reply.

But hey - we're all allowed our opinions. I may not like the BB2005, but I am still considering a 5 string TRB to add to my arsenal.

I guess I don't understand why some people automatically jump to being so cynical and negative.... :hmm:

What you actually said was, "I recently played a Yamaha bass and it was terrible. I'm not sure why because Yamaha made decent instruments in the past ...", implying that Yamaha doesn't make decent instruments any more. All this, based on your impression of a single instrument.

Hi!
Is there anyone out there who had some positiv expiriences with the BB2005?
Because cdworkman is the first person who told something negative about it. I did not have the chance to play one but I am thinking to buy one because of the amazing specs the bass has. So can anyone help??

thx!

I do really like it! Its a great bass (For me) but if you have $1,300 I would not buy a Yamaha, While it is a good bass, you can get a MUCH better bass for around the same price...

So which bass would you suggest. I am looking for a 5 string that can handle jazz funk and rock. Simply a allround bass. The BB2005 here in germany costs about 1100 euro´s. And with such specs I think it just cannot sound bad! Alder body with maple top, neckthrough body, independant string saddles, active electronics.....simply a great bass :bassist: .
The only bad thing is that I do not have the posibility to try one! :crying:
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO TRIED IT????

I'm not implying anything. But when a company is charging $1300 for an instrument that has the quality of $300 or $400 max - you kind of wonder what they're trying to pull. If you walked into a store and payed top dollar for **insert product here** you would be as ticked as i was to find that when you compared quality vs. price that you'd been screwed.

Like I said - if i'd paid $300-$400 I would have been ecstatic.

It's simply the principle of the whole thing. I was considering a TRB5 - but I probably won't purchase one because if the consumer is being shanked on a product that's worth $400 (max) and is being charged $1300 - that's kind of hard for me to handle. You have to be able to trust the product you are purchasing. I expect to get what I pay for. No more, no less. If you claim otherwise - then I'd have to call you a liar.

Someone said earlier that Yamaha is a mass producer and that they have instrumets in all price ranges. Well DUH!!! I think everyone knows this. But don't charge $1300 for something that has the quality and playability of a sweat shop made $300 bass.

I'm sure someone will puke up some excuse to disagree with me - but if you'd been the one who had enormously overpaid - you'd be saying the same thing I am...

Good day folks...
