i was wondering which of these basses is best for a beginner to practice alone for a while and then eventually play in a band with some friends? i am just going to get an amp good enough for my room right now. nothing made for a band. so i am looking at everything on this page list $229 and under. which starts at the package and down to the bronco. which do you think is best? http://www.andysmusiconline.com/categories/bass-guitar/60.html

guitar amps are NOT FOR BASS!

yes some will argue that it could work, but the speakers in guitar amps are NOT DESIGNED to handle bass frequencies to such an extent, and it certainly will not produce as good of a sound as an amp designed for bass will.

If you can't afford the gear you really want right now, just do yourself a favor and wait.

just always remember that ANY bass (from a 100 dollar one to a 10,000 dollar one) WILL sound like crap through a horrible amp, whereas a cheap bass is rather likely to sound pretty decent through an amp that is also decent. Though, obviously I understand your budget is limited and you only want something to begin with. I would still recommend you spend a little bit more on an amp, I think you will enjoy yourself more this way.

i am really considering the $140 sx basses. will i need to mod them any out of the box? will they be good for a while? like til next august? or a lil sooner. Because if i buy it for $140 i will have about $100 for an amp and i can try em out at my local store.

I think you will be surprised.

obviously modding the hell out of it will easily bring improvements, but I don't think you will have to worry a whole ton. cross that bridge if you come to it, but it should be just what youre looking for.

Of course it won't sound just like a bass amp. But for a beginner on a budget, it may be a very wise decision to tide oneself over with a guitar amp, all the while saving up money to buy a better bass amp than one would have bought if he had just bought it outright without saving up.

OP: The LTD basses are considered the very best. They'll be marked with "LTD" in the product listing.
