Hi everyone! I'm looking for a 5 string bass. My budget is $2100(for brand new). Here are my requirement. 1.Strong and Comfortable neck. 2.Maple fingerboard 3.Tight Low B 4.18mm or 19mm string space 5.Cut through well (mix in band well) 6.Suit metal and rock but sometimes I play funk or Jazz. 7.Bolt-on. Thanks for your help!
The first basses that come to mind (and there are plenty more great basses to choose from) are a second hand Mike Lull or Sadowsky Metro.
I would have said a Spector Coda 5 as well, considering he wants a bolt on with wider string spacing and most NS/Rebop Spector 5's are 17mm, but he's looking for something that costs $2100 or under NEW
^+30 I can't agree more. I use mine for a metal band, a blues band, and a Progressive Rock band. It does everything and the B string is the only B that I've ever liked. Plus with the extra $800 you can get a brand new cabinet that'll do that B string justice too!
1) Go used and get a Spector. 2) Get a Lakland 55-02 and use the left over for a new amp, some pedals, strings, beer, and dinner.
Lakland 55-02 Lakland Skyline 55-60 Lakland Skyline 55-64 used: Lakland 55-94 Lakland Scheff 5er (if you can find one!)
Fender American Standard Jazz 5. You may also consider..you could buy a very nice used high end bass with your dough.
Mine seems to be...I havent honestly heard about many 5 string basses with weak necks. I know some people have complained about the neck being floppy on some of the Geddy Lee Jazz basses but thats a thin-necked four string. I would think most 5s wouldnt experience much weakness given that there is more wood mass than your typical 4 banger.
