Policy on girlfriends at practice

I was in a band once where the drummer's girlfriend was a music major in college, and thought that gave her expert status. Eventually she was telling us how to sing, and had plenty of criticism. Thing is, we were doing fine until she showed up, but not for long after.

So, in my opinion, keep the non band members out, especially if they are highly opinionated.

What is your policy with girlfriends at practice? Had our guitarist's girlfriend over at the last practice. It was okay but guitarist spent a little too much time being lovey duvey and the drummer kept egging the two on. I don't mind the occasional lax practice so I'm wondering if I am being too critical here.

Y'all need to keep practice at a pace that doesn't allow for goofing off. Value your time.

Our wives would get pretty PO'ed.

Girlfriends &/or wives at practice is similar to inviting your band over to your kitchen to watch a wife/girlfriend cook something for the first time. It usually only adds to tension, distraction(s), or wasting of time(<<< YOU NEVER GET ANY MORE EXCEPT WHAT IS GIVEN TO YOU BETWEEN BEING BORN AND EXITING. DO NOT WASTE IT or spend it unwisely).

If it's an actual rehearsal where you need to get things done, there's just no reason for Amy outsiders to be there. Nobody wants to sit around and watch you work out parts, or run the same song ten times to get it tight. And their presence, as you've discovered, is counterproductive. Tell them to go make goo goo eyes on their own time.

I guess im lucky. We have rehearsals at my house... my wife is there during about half of them. She's the loud, funny, outgoing type. She's never said anything during a rehearsal to anyone, nor voiced an opinion. She brings us beer. Every once in a while she'll get completely out of control and say something like "Oh that sounded good!".

The singer's GF has came over a few times. Same thing. I don't think ive ever heard her speak other than when we all hit the back patio for a smoke break.
