Poll : Fender Free?

I started playing in the 80's fender had gone to MIJ. ( not that theres anything wrong with that ). But I was a big MIA guy even back then. So I went old MIA fender jazz and peavey MIA when I was in school. Peavey was one of the few companies in the 80's cranking out an affordable decent product I could find at my local music store. So I've been hardcore peavey ever since.
However. I think they are heavily influenced by Leo Fender designs with cleaver manufacturing practices in the U.S. and unique electronics. I likey likey. And still do. But I would still say I appreciate the Leo influence.

Most of the 20 or so basses I own are Fender or Fender clones. If I went down to one, it would probably be Fender/Fender - One bass made with 2 Fenders, like this '72 Jazz - 2001 P
Or maybe a '66 J - 70 P with added Jazz PU
Or the Roscoe Beck Fender hybrid
Next choice would probably be a Lakland Decade. Sounds like a couple of Fenders built into one.

I have an Epi Thunderbird. Not much Leo influence here, I'm afraid.

At the moment, I don't own a Fender bass, but that doesn't mean I don't like them or have any plans of not owning one in the future.
Beatle bass copy I bought from my brother when I was 13. SG copy next year when I joined a "band". EBO when I got serious at 15 and started lessons. 76 Thunderbird in 1976 that is still #1. 72 EB4 last spring. Nope never a Fender

I'm surprised that they didn't sell, this thing plays and sound great, this bass ain't going anywhere.
Ditto for that. I've had my '74 Jazz for thirty-three years, but it hasn't been a main player since 1997 when I went to 5. I, conversely, do think about selling mine, but considering how little I paid and ALL of the memories, AND the fact that it's a classic, classic bass that's light and has fantastic tone, well...

Got my first Fender (MIM P) last year, after going almost 50 years without one. But I did buy an Ibanez P fretless clone in 1977. The Fender is nice but no better than the Ibanez (or as good as my Carvin bb75).
What does "Fender Free" mean? Like being liberated from a brand you feel has inhibited your growth as as musician? I'm trying to get the true meaning of your question/poll.
I have a Lakland 55-94 and a Sadowsky NYC-5 J both definitely Fender related. I also have a Rob Allen Mouse, definitely not Fender related.
I went from always having one or more Fenders in the stable, to recently for the first time in over 30 years having none. I just picked up a Jazz fretless and now I want another Jazz or PJ. I think I had Fender withdrawal.
I am under the Fender spell, no matter how much I try not to.
My go to basses are Fender Precision Select; Fender Roscoe Beck V and Fender Mutt American Standard body with Japanese Precision neck.
The only non-fender I play regularly is a Yamaha BB2000.
My non-fenders are first in line for selling if I had to.

Nope. Never a Fender for me. I played a Gibson Ripper for years and years, but recently got an Alembic 5-er. End of story...!
Right now I have a '66P but often have no Fenders. That being said all the basses I play are Fender clones
The jack on top puts me off too much to really consider them. Except for the 50s CV Squier P, I want one of those for sure.
And I'm not even kidding.
I own a Epi Rock Bass which is a jazz clone and, whether it's because of the jack on top, a bad jack or some other reason, I don't really like to plug it in because it makes this 'explosion' you may call it? sound whenever I move the cable. It's a great unplugged practice bass, tho.
The other 3 are Ibanez, SR, BTB.
The Talman may be a Jaguar clone or the closest thing to a Fender.
And I'm not even kidding.
