Moving tables... I'm ok with that. I once had to move 2 pool tables. That... well, it sucked.

The picture below... I would have preferred no stage. My amp.... well it's on the roof below the stage. It wouldn't fit.View attachment 3271304
As a kid I built tree houses and forts that looked more stable and professionally built than that.
And as an adult I have a greenhouse that is definitely better built than that.
Did they make you sign a waiver saying if your broke your neck or anything, that you couldn't sue?

Seriously, I think I would have to say no to that. And how far of a drop is on the other side of their makeshift handrail across the front? And why would you sit your amp under it? At the very least I would have sat it off behind or to the side of that mess, but not directly underneath it.

So how much did it shake once you were up there playing?

ready for the scary part. That stage was out in the elements for 3 years before we played on it (in Minnesota) 3 years later... it's still up there. We had six people on that postage stamp, and it was a 3 story drop in front of the stage.
I could tell by the look of the wood it had been out in the elements for awhile.
3 story drop? A definite NO.

Mine was having to play RIGHT NEXT to the restrooms. The only cool thing about it, was the ladies room waiting line was closest to me.. Got to use the old tired pick up line..You come here often?

Played a place in Minersville PA - men's room is "a closet with a urinal in it. no regular toilet and I don't think there is a sink." Musicians set up in front of the door to the women's bathroom. Not a problem if it's "1 or 2 guitarists", but the two times I played bass there as a bonus 3rd band member, I had to step aside to let the door open for ever single person who needed in there.

That reminded me a bit of the late, lamented CBGB. The men's room fixtures were falling apart, and someone excitedly mentioned to me, "That's where Johnny Thunders used to shoot up!"
The stage faced the front door, but was set to the right, and a corridor to the left of it went straight to the rear of the club, where the bathrooms were. The dressing room was directly behind the stage, and, instead of a door, there was a ripped curtain. So, if you changed clothes, you were exposed to everyone who walked past to get to the bathrooms.
Rock and roll!
Also, the second floor of the building was a shooting gallery-- an abandoned space populated by addicts. When you loaded in and out, you had a crowd of hardcore junkies offering to help you carry your equipment! :)

Lol... no waiver,
The drop on the other side of the Handrail... 3 stories.

I had a 6x10 pretty much angled up from side stage. About where the picture was taken from. Not really "underneath" .

As for saying no... It was probably one of the funnest gigs I'd ever done. We were the filler act while bands set up on the main stage at ground level. Roughly 10,000-15,000 jammed between the buildings in front of the main stage at on a closed off road at ground level. We were run through the mains on the ground which made for interesting audio up on the roof (our monitors were good, but it was a kick to hear a concert level PA reverberate back and forth off a bunch of granite and brick building facades.

And to top it off I got to drink beer in the green room with Arnel Pinada (Admittedly I had to look his name up just now) and Johnny Van Zant. Being a small town hick... it was a bit of a kick to just kick back and have a beer with someone that had actually done something with music. Mind you With Van Zant it was just me and him in an empty theatre, so it was pretty cool. Good guy.

Was it risky... (If you knew how old everyone in my band is) oh yeah... but it was reallllly fun.

But there's no way I'll ever stand on that stage again.

Oh... just to reassure you... our lead guitarist is a doctor... well....a proctologist... so in cases like this where we take it up the... well you know... he's qualified to surgically remove it. :)

I would have set up my own separate tip jar for extra services rendered. :)

Definitely sounds like a once in a lifetime experience and a good a good time. But go over the handrail and you would be guaranteed it would be a once in a lifetime experience

Host: we need to wait until the people at that table leave, and then we'll move it, and that's the stage.
Me: Who booked this? WHO BOOKED THIS???? HEEEYYYYY!!!! AAAUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!! WHO BOOKED THIS?????
Host: Is there a problem?

The ONLY thing I worry about is people feeling they can walk through the area we are playing.

Cords, mic stands, cymbal stands, cords.......all those things WE trip over and we tend to be careful are now likely to be stumbled over by the public.

I WON'T DO THAT!

I love it. Instead of being/getting drunk, incessantly talking through whatever we do, starting sh#t or whatever, people sit down and play close attention to what we play. That is rewarding, in my book.
Some folks actually do. If I’m understanding you right. There’s usually a core section of the audience that does listen and isn’t totally zonked. Btw, an epiphany was reached at one my gigs last night. Semi regular jazz gig. The stage was in terrible area. The owner picked up on that (finally) and is now building a dedicated spot. :hyper:
