I mainly play acoustic guitars, but also have acquired a decent collection of electrics. I love bluegrass music, and really anything that has that "earthy" sound. I've also played harmonica for years, going back to when I was about 8 or 9 years old (late 50s now), Mick Jagger is actually my favorite harmonica-ist!
I also play drums, mandolin, and cajon.

I play just a little guitar to help me write. Not good enough to play live.
I've tried teaching myself piano but I can't stick to it.
I'd love to learn to play drums but it is out of my reach. Too much coordination, too much equipment.
I can't sing to save my life.

I started on guitar in 1966, took lessons from four different teachers, but after a few years, just couldn't get "good" at it (and was passed up by a couple of friends who'd only been playing a year or so). So I bought a cheap bass and amp ($20 for the pair, I think) and became a bass player - it came a lot more naturally to me than guitar. Played bass in a couple of Top-40 cover bands in the 70s and got pretty good at it - I can play most anything if I'm familiar with the tune or the style, and it's not crazy complex or unusual chord structure. Can't really compete with Geddy or Squire, but I can play a lot of their stuff.

I also learned to play organ from the "Pointer System" books found in the bench of the Gulbransen organ we inherited from my grandfather. But keys were out of the question - the cheapest combo organs at the time were WAAAY out my price range, plus, I had a friend who played keys who was WAY better than me and actually could afford an organ.

Around 1980 I joined a Classic Rock cover band that already had a bass player, but he and I could also play guitar and keys (and sing), so we swapped duties around. At that point, guitar came a lot easier to me, and I got good enough to do most rhythm duties and a few leads. I played the guitar solo for "Secret Agent Man" and the organ solo for "House of the Rising Sun". I sang some backup, and lead on a couple of songs ("Suffragette City", for one, although it really didn't fit with our genre at the time).

Since then I've only played bass in church and with a Christian rock originals band that gigs about 3 times a year. But I've been getting into keys a lot lately, both physical (several combo organs, and the new Behringer synth repros - Model D and 2600) and virtual - Arturia's vCollection. I'm hoping to work out a the keys parts for few songs for our band does (lost our keys player many years back)that I could play on a MIDI keyboard with a laptop and USB audio interface(we'll just see how THAT works out!)

Oh, and I *can* play drums, but most people would probably rather that I didn't.

I started on piano as a 9-year-old kid in the mid-60's, but that probably doesn't count because I was fired by the lady whose house my mom dropped my brother and I off for lessons. I always thought it was because she hated "jazz", but really, it's probably because I let her large "outdoor" German Shepherd in the house on her white carpet once too often.

So I moved to guitar - While laid up with a couple broken bones as a kid, the girl behind us loaned me her acoustic. Next thing, my mom started dropping my brother and I off at a little music store in North Dallas after school to take lessons from a local guitar professional. I think we got a good 15 minutes for each half hour when he wasn't on the store-phone doing weed deals.

Fast forward a few years - I found myself the weakest link of two guitar players in a band when the bass player quit. I think I sneezed one day and found myself with a short scale EB0 and Fender Bassman 50 amp. Surprisingly, I discovered I actually had an affinity for bass, if not any actual talent.

Over the years I've done more guitar gigs than bass, though over the past year it's evened out. Most recently I've picked up a weekly residence playing electric guitar, and a couple friends have mentioned, "It's great to see you back on guitar" or words to that effect.

But really? I like the bass gigs a little better, and try to pickup at least one a week if at all possible - Last week was a mostly country gig for a funny, entertaining, talented and seasoned BL, this week will be backing a local blues a-lister (who played at Montreux last July!).

Been playing drums since 1997 and it's still my primary and strongest skill set…but I fool around on bass more often because I keep them all in my home office and can use it as a break from work, especially late at night (I have four kids under 9). Recently started playing Rocksmith just to give me something to play and it's been a lot of fun!

Proficient on vocals, bass (including upright), guitar, keys. Competent on accordion.

Have gigged and recorded on banjo, mandolin, cello, and drums. I wouldn't say I am great at any of those, but I'm competent enough that sometimes me spending too much time practicing to be able to record the parts was faster than finding someone else to learn them.

I suck on guitar, both electric and acoustic. Anything worth doing is also worth doing poorly.

Drums are a primary instrument in one band that I play in. I'm not as proficient on drums as on bass, but I'm serviceable. Over time, I have migrated from bass guitar being my primary instrument to upright bass being more of a primary instrument. And singing both lead and background is something I do. At first, it was because it was necessary as a placeholder during practice when a singer couldn't make it. Once the sheer terror of singing in front of people abated, it became fun. I still won't do it unless I'm playing an instrument.

Once upon a very long time ago, I played piano. Not any more. Maybe there will be time if I ever retire. My playing, all of it, is always going to be strictly amateur.

because I just couldn't find the time...I think :D;

Yeah, I was into collecting Bandits for a while, because I just love those amps :thumbsup:
Currently I'm down to only the Silver Stripe now...plus a 5150 Combo, a 5150 4x12, and a Supreme head.

I love Bandits, and Classic 30s and Delta Blues. I am currently without Peavey amplification in any form. :wideyed:
