I haven't spent a lot of time with many other overdrive/distortion pedals as I'm more into funky effects but I love my DHA VT1! Perfect tube overdrive... exactly the tone I had in my head but could never quite get before finding it.

I haven't played that many, but I like my Fulltone BassDrive. Unfortunately for me, I can't justify having more than one on my pedal board - I like a few different settings, but switching from comp-cut to (whatever the others are called) and tweaking the input volume to compensate for changes in output aren't terribly feasible in a live situation.

Pandora PX3B fuzz setting with a G&L. It only has one sound (as long as you don't overdrive the input) but I like that sound.

So far my favorite distortion pedal ever is the Polish Love OD/Tube Sound Fuzz/Red Llama clone.

I like it so much I'm building two more! It's just the best sound ever (it only has the one sound, yes, but it is a great one... versatility be damned)

Yup, is my favourite distortion box.


I had a chance to A/B it with an XXL Bass and I found that a distorted tone from BDDI suited me more.

The XXL Bass was also great, but to my taste a little over the top.


edit: especially a BDDI running into an overdriven Ashdown ABM stack, my favourite distorted bass tone.

Used to like the Rat 2, but now I don't like pedals that need to be clean blended to work with bass, so I'm into the VT now. Sounds like an Ampeg cranked. Or clean if you want it clean. Thas mah s***.

While I'd really love to try the XXLB, I'd really hate to have that big ugly purple thing in my board.. 'sides, my BBM and soon-to-be VTB (I just ordered it today! wheee!) should take care of the dirty work.

As opposed to this big purple thing? (The image does it no justice... the purple is almost a deep fusia pink. Truely vibrant)
