Addressing the compressor challenge because it's the easiest, there are so many favorite and disliked compressors out there (one player's favorite is another's hated) that what ends up happening is a compressor that ends up suiting a small number of players. Same applies to the drive circuit (to a lesser extent) and also tuners... in fact tuners tend to be a lot more difficult to design for bass (and acoustic guitar), and there are many examples that don't track all that well. The tuner algorithms are still very much evolving IMO, and will continue to improve over the next 5 or so years.
Honestly, onboard compressors and tuners are what keep me away from certain amps. Yeah, there's a bit of tongue in cheek MusicYo Kramer to my "do one thing and do it well" approach, but it's what works for me. Unlike many, I have no issue using a small pedalboard that includes my favored tuner, compressor, and dirt.
