Poor Kitty

OK.

I watched the video -- unlike most people.

This is what I saw:

Some dumb-ass kid and his friend pretending to torture a cat (complete with fake NAZI accent) by using the cat as a video prop and swinging it aroung and shoving it up against a shower stall and slapping it back and forth. Then they sprayed it with water from the shower.

The cat was not hurt because the kid was not trying to hurt the cat.

This bears repeating.

The cat was not hurt because the kid was not trying to hurt the cat.

The kid was acting for the video and was only pretending to hurt the cat. He was only very lightly hitting the cat. As in, pulling his punches like a kung fu movie. The kids were making a stupid video and they didn't care that they annoyed the hell out of the cat by tossing it around and spraying it with water and they are truly jerks because of it.

But they did not hurt the cat. They had no intention of hurting the cat.

For all those who are screaming for these little jerkwads to be tortured to death without even looking at the video for yourselves to see what actually happened, you should be ashamed of yourselves. These kids deserve to be punished for their desire to annoy the crap out of a cat for their own amusement and they should also be psychologically evaluated for their eagerness to film such a spectacle but they don't deserve the barbaric, knee jerk response they've been treated to by the mob.

Have some sense of PROPORTION, people.

Flame away.

And if someone chose to take you and swing you around against your will and spray you with water, how would you feel? Cat's will retain a memory like that and it will certainly harm them mentally for life. How the hell would you feel being tormented like that?

YOU need to learn a sense of proportion as well. I'm not flaming, I just don't think that some people are at all sensitive to anything other than themselves. It's comments like yours that tend to encourage bulls*** like that. And it's people like you that make me sick.

What do you think about the school bully who shoves the smaller kid against the locker, gives him a wedgie and dumps a can of cola on his head? Would you puke if you witnessed such a thing? Should we put the bully in prison? Castrate him? Torture him to death? Do we expect that the victim of the bully must be permanently scarred and is destined to be a useless, shriveled hulk for the rest of his life? If the bully is "only" punished for his actions with severe restrictions of all his activities by his parents and extensive public service obligations by the local authorities would you say that he got off easy?

Apparently so. It seems that any retribution short of cutting off his head is enough to make people sick.

Describes pretty much every visit to my cousins' house when I was a kid.

I didn't really want to watch the video, but figured that if I was going to comment I needed to see it. Come to find out that hbarcat had a similar thought process.

I'd agree with him that by and large the kid was pretending to hurt the cat more than seriously trying to injure it. I was expecting the kind of sociopath-in-training animal abuse that goes on more often than most people realize.

What I saw was an idiot kid making a stupid video for YouTube. But I'd disagree that the cat wasn't hurt. Hurt badly or enough to seriously injure it? No. But even his "fake" abuse involved shoving the cat against the wall, batting it around and generally scaring the crap out of it. It wasn't the animal abuse at the level that he was trying to project, but it was animal abuse nonetheless.

He certainly shouldn't be allowed to own a pet, but beyond that I don't know what the appropriate punishment should be. It certainly needs to be something, though I'm guessing he's going to regret being a cretin just based on the public outcry over the video. And I don't really have any sympathy for him for that.

But I do think wanting to beat him to death is way over the top.

How is that not abuse? I'm sure the cat certainly understood that it was being used as a prop for a video that some moron kids were making. As far as slapping it back and forth, when the kid was smacking the cat on the head, it looked like he was hitting it pretty hard. They were still holding the cat down against its will, and it was crying out.

The cat was not hurt because the kid was not trying to hurt the cat.

Doesn't matter if the cat was physically injured or not. The psychological abuse inflicted upon it is far worse than the physical pain, because the physical pain can be recovered from, while the psychological abuse might never be overcome.

edit: I don't really think the kid needs to be physically hurt or anything, but there should still be some form of retribution for what he did to the cat.

You said it better than I could.

It was certainly animal abuse and it was wrong and the kids need to be punished, but only in proportion to their actions.

This also goes to show why you don't piss off the internet. They will find out every detail about you and who you are within the day.

no its just animal abuse that Anon hates. Rape, Murder, Human trafficking, incest, Necrophilia, etc, is all ok, BUT as soon and you harm an animal, the explosion begins. I've seen this before I knew it was fake it just disgusts me. I'd rather watch people getting killed than animals being harmed.

Oddly enough, i agree, haha.

anyways, lets make it fair. Raise money for me to make a trip to his house. I will take a video camera and beat him on camera and put it on youtube. :D

My first reaction to this was an emotional one and I've analysed it in the light of other people's comments. I have to say that at times I'm really down on a lot of members of our own species (read the news if you want to know why) and so that does colour my views. But anyway, a couple of points.

1) Inflicting suffering is inflicting suffering. The species that the victim belongs to does not change this. The more innocent and vulnerable the victim is, the more upsetting it is to any sense of justice and morality. I guess that's why some folks get outraged by cruelty to "animals" (but remember, we're animals too).

2) If these kids were just faking or fooling around because they thought it was some sort of joke, then clearly that's in no way as bad as inflicting real suffering. However, it's hard to judge quantitatively something as subjective as suffering (whether physical or otherwise) and the fact that they think there's any humour in there at all makes me think that they're probably not the sort of people I'd sympathise with personally if they get some sort of payback for doing this. It's hard to think of such people as a valuable resource - after all, it's not as if there's any sort of shortage.

then how do you explain the sound coming from hitting the cat?
I mean I'm really rough when I'm playing with my cats and I imagine even they wouldn;t like it if it hit them hard enough to make a sound for a camera to pick up.

I fully agree with hbarcat.

He's right... proportion people.
There are much much worse things that humans do to animals every day.

These were just some stupid annoying kids that made a stupid video.
Yeah, let's go beat them silly over that. :eyebrow:

Don't get me wrong, they shouldn't have done this to the cat. I love animals and I would never do these things myself or stand by watching if someone else does it.

In my lifetime I resued three dogs and a cat because they were neglected by their owners. (Seperate cases.)
The typical neglectance (sorry, sp?): locked up in a little cage or shed, living in their own filth, only giving food (questionable food) once every three days, not enough water and even being beaten and kicke the hell out with serious injuries.
When I was 14 a friend of me knew of a dog in the neighbourhood that had these living conditions. We commited a crime to save that dog, breaking and entering on the property of the dogs owner. We had to carry it home because the dog was so traumatized and didn't had any strength. We got to my home and called an animal shelter and explained the situation. They picked up the dog later in the day and were going to take care of him.
That went well but the next day the police at the door and the owner coming to complain. The police didn't took the owners charges serious because there were many complaints about him from neighbours.

That's actually saving an animal that's actually being abused.

And there are more people who save abused animals on a larger scale everywhere in the world.
And they are doing serious noble work.

This isn't noble work at all.
All this about that kid pestering his cat in the shower is pure sensationalism.
That's right, I am more disgusted with the sensationalism than with the video of Kenny Glenn.

Ruining the kids and his families life is the moral thing to do? :eyebrow:
This is the internet version of torches and pitchforks I assume. :rollno:

Search around youtube for people that feed little chickens to snakes, drop rats in a tank of aquariums, cattle being tortured in slaughterhouses,...
Most we go after all those people? To have legal action against them? To beat them up?
I would like to do that to, but it's hard putting your actions where your mouth is.

Perspective people!
All this kid did was threw same fake kung fu puches at the cat, pinned him down against the wall and sprayed water on him.

my 2 cents

Ok, today he's just playing around. So today, we won't do anything to him.

Why don't we ask the cat if he was really assaulted?

Perception is everything, people. I've seen some people in the military lose their careers and families because of perception. If you disagree with that statement, then in the words of Morpheus the Great "You've been living in a dream world..."

Unless your favourite movie is "Minority Report". :smug:

The people around him (family, friends) can be a better judge if this kid is an animal abuser than over-sensitive people who see a YouTube video and scream "bloody murder" just because they can.

I don't know if you were agreeing with me, but I agree with this statement. :)

If he is willing to hurt a cat strictly for entertainment on video(in which he probably did not fully unleash his wrath on the poor thing). What about when he's off camera? Does he treat the cat any better or does he perform worse "stunts" on the cat than those seen in the video? What do you think? It's not about the physical pain people. It's about how you're scaring the heck out of the cat and hurting it psychologically that matters.

I really hope /b/ get him good. Or PETA.
