I know many of you are not familiar with cats, or maybe don't even like them. But one thing that many people have probably overlooked is that this is not a happy ending for this cat.
Before he finds a new home, this cat will either sit in a clinic, shelter, or foster home. Being that he is an adult cat, his chances of finding a new home are significantly reduced.
Given this experience he had with this young boy, he may no longer trust kids, or possibly even adults as well. That could rule out any potential adopters that have kids.
The stress of changing households can cause cats to become hyperglycemic, start "spraying", become timid, become aggressive, or cause dormant viruses that cause eye infections and upper respiratory infections to become active.
Cats do not do well with drastic changes in routine or environment. many cats in this situation would be euthanized if they don't find a new home soon.
But on a lighter note, he'll probably find a home due to his celebrity status.
Exactly my point, and why I responded the way that I did. It's a trust thing, and once you betray the trust of an animal, you will rarely, if ever, gain it back.
People are much the same way. There's a saying- "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...we won't get fooled again"...wait, that was W...

Anyway, you burn my trust once, I can usually forgive, if there are extraordinary circumstances. Burn me twice, and I write you off as a farging bastage, never to be trusted again.
My cats trust me when we play- sometimes I get their tummies when they roll on their backs. If they aren't in the mood, they'll bite hard. If they are, they'll grab on and bite, but not hard, and sometimes they'll do the "gutting the prey" move, kicking with their back legs as they grab my hand harder. It's all part of the game. If I catch them doing something bad, like trying to sharpen their claws on the couch or something, they get a sharp "HEY! NO!", usually that's all that's needed to make them stop. If they do it more, out of spite, they probably need some food in their bowl.
That kid- he was abusive. The cat did NOT want to play his game. I hope the cat $#1+$ in his shoes and he puts them on. That would be justice, kitteh-style.
