Poor Kitty

What good would a bunch of hypotheticals do? THe point is you have made up your mind. Guilty is the verdict because you saw it on you tube and got ticked off about it. That is not how the justice system works in a Republic like ours. And we get to hear constantly about the circumstances that surround shady and dirty things going on in our society, making excuses for people who do terrible things to one another, and some ******* cat gets people this wound up? The point is I think the kids a douche. Said that. IF he broke an existing law and is found guilty by a jury, I hope he recieves an severe sentence, but this is more to do with my belief that we go to esay on criminals as a whole anyway. But until it is tried befoe a judge and a jury, you nor anyone else can scream for this kid's head. Mob justice is no justice at all.

Try and tell me one legitimate reason as to why a kid living a comfortable surburban life should be allowed to abuse an animal like that? What more could there be to this story? We saw someone who was clearly acting with intent abusing an animal. What more do you want, a statement from the cat saying it crapped on the carpet and deserved a beating?

The kids could have been abused by their psycho parents.I once knew a man who was burning cats alive, his arms were full of cuts and my parents always told me to keep away from him.He was cool to us though.

However,I don't care what these people lived through, they should be locked up untill they're fixed.

I did give thought to it and I spelled out exactly what I thought was reasonable (and proportional) punishment. What is your opinion on my suggested punishment?

Wow, man,
do you work for mass media? Because the selective editing of my post in your quote was ridiculous.

I wasn't arguing with your plan of punishment. I was arguing with your statement that "The cat was not hurt"

But yes, the kid DOES need some form of psycho-therapy from a professional. No amount of "preaching of morals" by his parents (look what a great job they've done thus far) is going to change him.

And the Rebel flag comment was out of line. Sorry, but you make a lot of inferences with that statement and they can not all be born out. The kid was supposedly a racist, this is true, but a sweeping generality about the Stars and Bars is rather intolerant. Of course, tolerance means tolerating only PC ideas nowadays doesn't it?

From the south are we?

Didn't expect to offend by that comment, just thought it worth noting that this kid displays a symbol that represents torture and slavery to millions of Americans.

WEll like I said, the part edited out of your quote. Tolerance only applies when its a PC idea that I am forced to tolerate. And I was born in Maine, as yankee as they come, but the conception of the South during the civil war in so called common knowledge history is very skewed and (much like this cat kid) convicted based on one angle of perception. There was, in fact, more to the story. Either way, this is getting political and I don't do internet wars since I graduated from middle school. My only point is that you cannot convict something based off of someone elses regurgitated rhetoric, and nothing from just one source has been verified.

In response to those who think the kid was playing that he was hurting the cat I propose that he was intentionally hurting the cat as much as he thought he could get away with. Kill the cat, his parents will ask questions. Break it's leg, crush it's ribcage, cut it so that it bleeds all over the carpet, same thing. Slam it against the wall and punch it hard enough to be felt without breaking anything; masochistic orgasm. The kid needs some serious help and while the attention his family is getting will ensure that the sustained outrage everyone feels that he should feel is probably overkill. After this negative attention to his family I doubt they've taken him out for dinner or a trip to Disneyworld. I'd be fine with him going before a juvenile judge, but I'm not keen on self righteous people having their own masochistic orgasms doing the same thing back to him. I genuinely believe more than a few of the people asking for him to be beaten or killed are just as bad but better able to control it. This is not a post stating he should be given a free pass to torture animals, but rather condemnation of his actions and many of the responses. It wasn't pretend and he obviously didn't try to kill or maim that animal, so let's make sure we keep it in perspective.

On that note I did watch the video and despite being allergic to cats I'd definitly consider taking that one in if only to get it away from that jerk. And to the people who say they'd rather watch people being killed than animals being tortured: Kids. If there's one thing that really sets me off the way a lot of animal lovers here have gotten set off (yes, I can relate), it's the abuse of kids.

Troll out.

The cat was fearful, and it's trust bond with the perpetrator was broken. Not that the cat won't survive, but it has clearly suffered a trauma. And I own three cats presently, or should I say, they own me. I play with them, sometimes roughly, which they ask for (you must be attuned to the cat to understand them), and if I get too rough, they let me know in no uncertain terms that they are upset. I stop at that point. And by rough, I don't mean hitting them, kicking them, etc. I mean the "sheet monster" in the bed grabs a paw, or rolls them on their side or flips them upside-down. Do I get scratches and bites? Sure! Do they have a "look" in their eyes that tells me they are battling prey? Yes. Do they still come and get pets and scratchies from me when we're done? Absoutely! They KNOW that I am not trying to hurt them, physically or psychologically. They TRUST me, and I don't ever betray the trust given by any animal, regardless of breed.

This kid has issues. He will likely end up in prison in his late teens or early twenties. It seems his parents don't have enough time to spend with him, or have possibly rejected him (again, the "perception" argument comes into play here), or don't have enough values to instill in the kid. Whatever the backstory, he should be punished. Not beat to death, but definitely a good old-fashioned ass-whoopin', the kind I got as a snot-nosed brat.

The cat should get a new owner who loves cats, and should be allowed to trust again.

You're avoiding the question. Water boarding was used well before the current "scandal". I was merely picking an example of human-human "abuse" where there is a debate as to whether it qualifies as "torture" or not. Its not specifically related to any factual scenario. Imagine water boarding administered for the same reason as this kid is abusing this cat - ie the purpose of making a video. Who deserves the greater punishment?

Neither is really better or worse in the sake of torturing for personal enjoyment.

Call me crazy, but the knee-jerk reaction to administer a little karma/retribution isn't necessarily as e-tough as one might think. We, the viewer, are naturally unable to protect this cat and wish we could. I'd probably guess it's more rare that someone wouldn't feel something similar and a little obvious that a sliver of people would enjoy it just as much as he did.

Perhaps there's an inherent sense of right and wrong in almost all of us and the desire to help "fix" the wrongs. Besides wanting a little payback on the cat's behalf, I think we want to believe that if we reverse the role with the punk-ass kid, he might be less likely to pull a stunt like this again.

You are correct. It was the "more to the story" quote that was all chopped up and that wasn't you.

And yes, even the video has brought up debate about whether or not the cat was beaten etc;

Why is my saying that the kid deserves the same justice system that people are demanding for Gitmo prisoners so offensive?

I stand by my edit. I only excerpted that part to illustrate the fallacies of distraction that you continue to put into your comments to me. Every one contains implications that I just don't know what I'm talking about or I haven't thought this through or I just don't get it because I'm stupid.

The fact is you have a different opinion than I do. While we both watched the same video, we both saw something different. You saw a cat purposely tortured and physically hurt and permanently damaged by an evil sociopath who needs to be separated from society before he kills someone. I didn't see that. Feel free to continue to call me names and attack my motives and my intelligence but it will only be for your own amusement because there is nothing more that I can add to the opinions that I've already posted on this thread.

Shalom

EDIT: I changed my mind. The kid is a jerk. Let's string him up.
