Poor man's Mesa

What about Fender Amps? I thought I read somewhere that the early Mesas were heavily modified Fenders. I also know my 400+ has the "Fender" tone stack.

You're absolutely right that they're not intended to replicate a Mesa bass amp, but they may still give the OP what he's looking for.

Quite possible. The last Mesa I played was my special order D-180 when they first came out in the early eighties. Mine was serial #0097 IIRC.
