Poppy "vintage-style" bass?

I play in a very poppy indie rock band... It's sort of like old Green Day or Weezer with vintage-style instruments and amps. We were discussing the concept lately of deliberately playing vintage-style gear for aesthetic and tonal purposes. The guitarist plays a Wilshire, a Fender Bassman 10 4x10, and several fuzz/overdrive pedals, a reverb pedal, and delay, etc etc. It's very decidedly vintage-sounding. The bass, however, I'd prefer be VERY forward and almost guitar-like, sort of like Mike Dernt from Green Day's tone of Dookie.

I used to play my Rick through the guitarist's Bassman with a Boss Hyperfuzz and it sounded great, pushed the output just right on the bass and sounded awesome, but the Rick is a '63, so I don't wanna risk it anymore, and the guitarist wanted to amp back. I have a Grabber in my other band, but it's too deep, which is great for the other band, but not this one. I considered a G-3. I have a Fender Jaguar bass, and it sounds great for what we do, but the controls keep screwing up and I'm tired of it. Also, it's not very vintage-looking. It looks like a very new design. So, I might swap it for something less complicated and more vintage-styled.

how is a jag modern looking? its based of a guitar thats like 50 years old. If the jag sounds great , relic it , get a mint guard or something to age it a bit and fix the controls.

Nope, just reserved for recording and very particular shows. I throw my bass around and move a lot live, it's a tool and I'm an entertainer, so that's what I do, try to entertain. However, when that tool is a family heirloom and worth more than any car I've ever owned...

Maybe it's because I know basses, but the Jaguar looks like a bass that is trying to be vintage-looking but has very modern appointments. Aside from that, I just fixed the controls and now something ELSE is wrong with them. I'm a bit tired of messing with it.

My recommendation would be a Danelectro. Or You might consider Eastwood.

Pretty sure it was a G3 the drummer broke doing a guitar spin, he had or still has a 69 P bass.

Eastwood stuff looks cool, but I can't imagine anything they have producing a very cutting, bright tone.

A Danelectro might, maybe. I've never played a dano bass plugged in. Might be the wrong kinda vintage vibe, though. Jet King, maybe.

I'd go for a Fender Classic '51 Precision or a Sting Sinature Bass. The single coil pickup sounds a little brighter than a standard P-bass and the look cool and familiar at the same time.
