"Sooner Or Later" by The Grass Roots was the very first 45rpm single I ever bought with my own money. I distinctly remember that record being conspicuously louder than any other in my small vinyl collection at the time.

This thread is interesting to me because except for Barry Manilow and a couple of others, everything here is "rock" to me. I still think of "pop" as Perry Como, Peggy Lee, Sinatra, The Mills Brothers, Barbra Streisand, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, et al.
Funny how definitions evolve.
For example, "As Tears Go By" by the Stones is softer and quieter than "Sooner or Later." Would you call that a "pop" song by Mick and Keith?

Much here, I would say, was played on AM Top-40 radio in the '60s/early '70s (pre-1972 Buick that came with FM radio. No way my dad woulda sprung for anything above AM).
