Heh. I was working at the university bookstore at the time. I have a whole strip of them around the headstock of my '69 which has kept it relatively undamaged over the decades, but no photo since it just misses the requested demographic.

Holy...this collection just made me weep.
Only 70's bass I've ever owned ('79 Aria Tri-Sound bass), sold it off a few years back.. Pardon the huge/grainy photo;
The white one is a 79. Just made the cut!
1972, re-finished, de-fretted. My first bass, bought used in 1977. Modern amp.

It must have been lucky. I think at the time, that Fender joined odd cuts together for their painted basses. Mine was red with the white racing stripe, but the finish had been badly damaged when the bass fell out of its case onto concrete. So the easiest thing to do was strip it and apply a clear oil finish. I got the plastic for the pickguard from a place that made signs and sold scrap plastic by the pound.
