Man... I really like the two-tone affect the 3 piece body gives it!
It must have been lucky. I think at the time, that Fender joined odd cuts together for their painted basses. Mine was red with the white racing stripe, but the finish had been badly damaged when the bass fell out of its case onto concrete. So the easiest thing to do was strip it and apply a clear oil finish. I got the plastic for the pickguard from a place that made signs and sold scrap plastic by the pound.
