ok.. I just literally went through every post on here.. you guys have some sweeeeeeet ink.. it makes me want more *L*

Anyway, Here's both of mine.

I drew it out first, and got it about 5 years ago at Kalamalka Tattoo Studio. The pic was taken a couple years ago.

I just got this one done a week ago (today) and took this crappyish pic w/ my mac. It's my Clan badge (Kennedy) and no.. that's not an Angry Duck, but rather a Sea Monster or Dolphin, depending on what you look at. *L* I got this one at Traditional Tattoo in San Luis Obispo.

I'll get a better pic of both once this one heals up.

I have 2 more tatts in mind. The first is a matching arm band for my left shoulder. The only difference is I plan on using a different knot pattern for the left.

I'm also designing a a major back piece. I'm Presbyterian, and the symbol for my denomincation is a fairly stylized cross:

I want to take that cross, and have it pearched upon a fairly large rectangular knot, and fill the spaces with some knotwork. The bible piece of the cross (top of the cross-bar) I want to make look more like an open bible. On the part that represents the pages, I'll add in "Psalm 63" on the left side (representing the Old Testement) and "Romans 5:1-3" on the right side (representing the New Testement), which are 2 of my absolute favorite passages in scripture.

The dove will look more realistic, and I'm going to add a celtic circle in the background to make the whole cross more celtic to begin with.

The cross parts will be made to look like cast iron or other metal. Lots of shading, and the flames will be made to look more like sconces with flame in them.

I'm working on rough sketches I can give to my boy at Traditional. I'll post it when I get closer to go time.

Well, things are coming along slowly but surely on the "celtic madness" sleeve. All the parts of my arm not covered in the top pic are being covered in a single, light gray pattern. The top knots will then be colored (dark blues and greens primarily) and shaded to enhance the contrast between the two layers.

Simply put, my artist is a madman :)

So hey, I'm 18, going to be a jazz bass major in college, and I'm thinking about a tattoo.

In the recent edition of Bass Player, an ad had a picture of a guy with a treble clef on the back of his right forearm. I thought that would be really cool with a bass clef.

Small, no one would really see it if I wore long sleeves. I wasn't thinking of anything over 1.5 inches... just a small token of my dedication to bass.

Any advice on finding a parlor that doesn't suck, and advice on tattoos in general?

What you are looking for is quite easy and should be simple to do for any artist with reasonable skills. Make sure you do a search in your city for reputible studios and maybe get referrals from friends. Go to the studio and look through their books to get an idea on which artist "clicks" for you. Make sure to bring in a copy of what you want and be very clear in what you are looking for. That's about all I can offer. Good luck!

So to try and avoid the completely plain bass clef tattoo, I was thinking, why not throw in another passion of mine?

I love impressionistic art. How do you think an impressionistic bass clef would look?

You can almost see a bass clef in there, haha. I think if I took it to an experienced enough artist, they could make something decent out of it.

Or do you think I should just keep it simple?

No offense, but I can't really see impressionism taking to the ink and skin so well. Impressionism is all about the brush strokes, which may or may not be possible to be recreated with ink and a needle. I would be wary of doing something like that.

Yeah, after about 30 seconds of really thinking about it, the age old rule of keeping it simple prevails.

Haha.

And after looking through my numerous music folders, I have realized that almost every different publisher has a different way of making a bass clef. Since I play jazz, I don't want the traditional bass clef, but the "hand-drawn" ones they use in jazz charts.

If I get my scanner working I'll scan in a few examples.

A is pretty unique, B is just a nice looking clef.

I don't know :P... I know I'll get a lot of "It's your body, you decide" but I want to know which bass clef my fellow bassists like more.

To be honest, the second.

I am thinking of an idea myself. Adding the Silver Dragon from the DnD games, climbing on top of a clef like that. On the back of my forehand.

What do you guys think?

Personally I prefer the normal clef but it's your call.

Take a look at my pic on page 18 of this thread. A normal clef with knot work surrounding it. I'm getting more work done on it fairly shortly.

Maybe a standard clef with some small surround could work for you rather than trying to be fancy with the clef?

At the end of the day - it's your body and your art. Personally I feel you should choose something that is a small expression of who you are - you only have to please yourself. But that's me - it's what you want that counts.

Whatever you decide on, it'll be cool.:cool:
