Post Your Pedalboard - Part I

Well, here it is for now - it changes almost weekly. It's not the best picture, but you get the idea. I still want to get a Loooper w/ a blend control for my vintage E.H. Zipper and a fuzz (either BOF or Frantone Lo-Tone) for synthy madness. I just got a Furman plug lock strip that someday I'll put on a pedal board. I was using a pedal power 2 but I've switched to the Godlyke powerall for now. I used to have the Compulator at the very end of the chain - well, right before the delay - I think I might move it back there soon.

Wow, that picture is really ****ty. In case you can't figure it out it goes: Guyatone mini-tuner (someday I'll get a Strobostomp), Demeter Compulator, Mutron octave divider (secret weapon and my favorite pedal ever, pry it from my cold dead hands, etc.), Deep Impact, Ezekiel 25:17 (the super fat mode is so rude), Pigtronix EP-1, Headrush E2 (still gassing for a Maxon ad-900 but the looper is nice to mess with).

nice setup...I wish the pic was a little larger, it's hard to see all those super stompboxes. How do you like the pigtronix?? I want one of those.

I wish my effects could neatly fit into a pedalboard. There's only a couple that I use, but they're all oddly shaped.
Boss GT-6B
Boss RC-20XL looper
Boss FS-6 footswitch
Loooper signal chain controller
and my EBow thrown in for good measure.

The smaller pedals are all powered by a Visual 1Spot.

how does that e bow work with bass??? fairly well?

Surprisingly it works easily-at least with wider spacing at the bridge. My basses have 19mm spacing, and I can lay the EBow directly against the side of the string below the one I'm playing (if that makes sense). I usually use it at the neck pickup. Playing arpeggios across strings is something I haven't gotten the hang of yet though.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is an E-bow, and where is it located in that picture? Thanks!

It's the little claw-shaped device below the Loooper (the pic is kinda dark, sorry). An EBow stands for electronic bow. What it does is create a cycle of feedback, and allows your string to remain vibrating when held over the strings at a certain distance (pretty close). It can make a lot of different tones depending on it's distance and angle to the string, and it's proximity to the pickups. It can make very distortion-like tones, or it can make the string just sound like it's continually sustaining, as if you were playing it with a bow.

One of the neat features is that is has the standard setting and then another setting that picks up on higher harmonics, so it can be held over a note and pick up the note to sound like a harmonic, and then pitch itself up to an even higher octave of it. It's hard to explain...if you listen to certain Michael Manring songs, particularly "Wistful Thinking" from the Manring/Cullen album "Equilibre" you can hear all of the things an EBow can do.

Damned hard to control though....it picks up on every nuance.

Okay, I made a quick mp3 of an ebow being played.

I'm using it on my fretless on it-it works better on fretless I've found (think about it..would bowing a fretted cello sound as good?), and I switch from the normal mode to the higher frequency mode in the middle. All of the volume swells are simply from moving the ebow laterally across the strings. It's an extremely sensitive tool, and you'll hear quite clearly how it picks up on the slightest movements...unfortunately I'm like a bull in a china shop with this thing right now, but it has incredible potential. It can make a lot of sounds that I don't demonstrate in this clip (particularly agressive distortion sounds) as well.

Pretty much as the photo, just the order has changed now, except the TC E.Peak phaser is going, and an X bass MC is replacing it

Its a Mono analogue - and it only choruses the harmonics and high end, leaving low frequency fundamentals more or less dry, but its great for fattening up.

You dont get that classic over the top type chorus that most pedals can deliver. Its mild even on its most extreme setting -but great none the less. You can just leave this on for some fattening with a modicum of colour - nothing outrageous or over the top.

Worth its weight in gold
