I just use the tonebender for all the distortion. Just need to turn the fuzz down and turn it to treble

Honestly I pretty much do as well. However there are a few times having the distortion itself there comes in handy. But yeah, I tend to use the Tonebender for most applications that call for it.
I'm guessing it could be both. Given all the ambient stuff Justin does, and for that being such a long guitar-only part, I figured Justin was doing some of the stuff in the background.
The only thing is that it sounds very violin like. Lots of volume swells and such. It could be keyboards or something to that effect like Maynard does on 10,000 days.
