Some updated shots of my build progress. Mind you, this has been a bit of a challenge space wise. This room is a very cramped 10' x 10' square with relatively short 8' ceilings and a ceiling fan.
The mount boards are 1x6 common pine, and are screwed directly into the studs, the cables and headphones are hung from 3/8" oak jointing dowels, I need to get some hardwood dowel stock, and finish that part up.
There's 2 more String Swing guitar hangers not visible in this pic, and 2 more coming for a total of 8 in the room. However at present I have nothing to populate them with, those are slots for longer term planning.
The amp in the corner is just there because it fits... It's not ideal, but I am working with a VERY small space here... But here's the amp, a V3 Fender Rumble 500 combo with 210 cab...
As a reminder about my earlier post, this space is small, VERY small, and is a shared home office / music room / recording studio space. In this space will be an L shaped desk with full hutch, a 54" tall legal size vertical file cabinet, a 48" LAN rack, a 7u wall mount switch rack for my networking gear / structured wiring terminal, my bass gear, My BILs and my Wifes accoustic guitars (Trying to find a good accoustic for her) an HSS strat and amp that is still on the wishlist, a Fender / Squier Jaguar bass V, a Les Paul, and a digital piano. The L desk will have my terminal (No PC, just the terminal, Computers accessed via the KVM terminal access. I will also have a DVD / VHS VCR on top of the hutch for the few rare occasions I need to import VHS video from old tape that I still have plenty of. I will also have the Condenser mic on the articulating boom mixer, USB interface, and headphone amp housed here.
Book storage will be in the closet using those Closetmaid cube system thingies.
The desk will be housed along the un-pictured wall with the Hutchless leg along the wall with the current accoustic guitar. To get the cables from amps / keyboard to the mixer on this desk, I will be running cables over the door jams using a Wiremold kit. I have used a ton of these things with network cables over the years with great success. I will have 3 cables running through here, 1 for guitar amp, 1 for bass amp, and 1 for keyboard.
A final decision is pending on paint colors below the ceiling. The doors have too many hanger holes in them from the last 30+ years so I don't really care if I paint murals in there at this point, and I am VERY tempted to... The ceiling somewhat unimaginatively is going to be ceiling white (for optimal lighting purposes), but will have glow in the dark "stars" dotted among it. Might actually use a star chart and try to replicate some of the major constellations.
Flooring will be hardwood laminate, yes I know bouncy, but I am planning on a large throw rug as well.
In order to control noise bounce off of and from the LAN rack, I have several of those Harbor Freight movers blankets that I have attached brass grommets to, and will simply clip them to the LAN rack. Aside from my cable modem, NAS disk, and router, everything else can and will be turned off (aside from laptop of course for recording) for musical or recording work.
I am working all the kinks out now, but the long term goal is to be connected up something like the following schematic.
I've been working off of a 3D model I made of the space, my goal is to have my studio / Home Office set up like this. There are a few items missing. Specifically.
#1. Need a 5 string Jazz Bass model.
#2. Need to make proper Fender Rumble 500 combo and Fender Rumble 210 cab models.
#3. Need to make a proper model for the Behringer GTX60 1x12 60 Behringer Watts guitar amp.
#4. Need to model the mount board / cleats I am using to provide a solid anchor for hanging instruments.
#5. Need a Les Paul model.
