With the exeption of Hi-fi, and modern, you should be able to do all that with one P bass.

Nope, that is me and yes, I had (and still have) 5 Fodera Monarch 4-strings (haven't sold any nor do I plan to, at least not anytime soon), but this is entirely due to my own insanity and doesn't represent well-rounded anything!

You're probably right about the 5 not being representative of a "well-rounded stable"

But what made you choose the two you mentioned in your first post, and not any of the other three?

5 string Gibson LP
4 string Gibson LP clone
4 string semi hollowbody
2 5 string Steinies (1 for office, 1 for home/travel)

At one point I had 3 Roscoes and 2 Laklands but I found that redundant.

I don't have a group shot (and I don't want to crash the TB servers by posting 12 10MB pics!) but I finally think I have a pretty versatile collection. I am in 3 different bands that play metal, classic rock, punk, funk, blues and old country and I am confident I now have the tools I need to play just about anything....

Sadowsky Metro MV4 - Maple/Ash - covers the super Jazz sound and all slap
1974 Fender P - Flats/rosewood board - amazing for blues, country and some older rock
EBMM Stingray 4 30th Anniversary - Great for funk, rock and punk
EBMM Stingray 5 20th Anniversary - Great for just about everything but metal as I prefer a 35" scale for metal. Very versatile 5er
Squier VM Fretless Jazz - Reliced by Vintaged and has MIA PU - Everyone needs a fretless
Squier VM Telebass - with BAIII bridge - my BU bass for jam nights
Roscoe SKB-3005 - birdseye maple board - my go to bass now. Amazing tonal range. Does everything except for slap. It does slap, but I like the slap sound on my Sadowsky and SR4 better
Morgan Monroe ABC - I like having an acoustic around to jam with friends
Hagstrom Frankenbass - it is a POS that I am going to donate to Goodwill

Vintaged Guitars passive P bass with P/J config - I have always wanted a P/J and Brett is building me a beauty.
Roscoe SKB-3006 - I am playing more solos and using higher octaves and have not has a 6er in years.

I thoght he WAS Sheldon! I figuerd he just moved to Oregon.

I've been to Winnipeg in the winter... it really sucks! Anyplace where you have to plug in your engine block at a MALL, is too cold for me. Come to think of it the mosquitos in the summer aren't much fun either.

Great collection! That is what I would call well rounded.

I have always loved the look of the Dean Dime Razorback bass.

My metal band is on hiatus and I am turning 40 in a couple of months.... hmmm... I wonder what people would think if I played one of those for funk, blues and country gigs?

Warmoth fretless with ebony board, for those fretless times

Musicman Stingray 5, for everything else.

Looking to get rid of the musicman and replace it with either a rick 4001/4003 or an american deluxe p bass, 4 strings, as I'm finding i don't use the low B all that much.

I have a Classic 50's P-Bass, a mutt P-Bass clone with an added J pickup, a Hamer 2-TEK CruiseBass and a Bacchus J-clone with an Audere JZB-3 and DiMarzio Ultra J's. I can get whatever I need from them. The mutt P-clone sees the most stage time and the Hamer is my studio "go to" although they all get a fair amount of stage time.

pointbass has the most well-rounded collection I've seen so far -- that's quite a range of types of bass there.

I'm primarily a four-string fretted player, so my collection reflects that bias:

My main player is the NYC Sadowsky PJ up on the wall on the left. The cream/white Reverend PJ usually goes out to gigs as my #2, though I sometimes take the Steinberger since it has such a clear pure tone that kills in the mix. Occasionally I'll bring out the Ric or the Dark Star P. The UV70 5-string comes out once in a while, too.

I'm a huge fan of Reverends obviously, and it was unfortunate that they stopped making them. For me, there's nothing else out there quite like them. I really love their huge tone and the incredible feel of their necks, and thus have horded some fine examples, one of which is not pictured above (a red four-stringer w/black PG).
