Custom graphite neck jazz V with MOP blocks 35, scale with barts, one piece mahogany body stained black. all black hardware.

Fretless gibson ripper copy with an ibanez roadster neck 34 scale maple defretted, black epi goth bridge, two harmony bass humbuckers, and making a black pickguard and a one piece brazilian oak body.

For loaners beaters:
MIM Jazz V with american PUPS, badass V, sadowsky strings. sounds killer.
Lawsuit ibanez body and pups from a p and a maple neck off the bay with a badass...

You're probably right about the 5 not being representative of a "well-rounded stable"

But what made you choose the two you mentioned in your first post, and not any of the other three?

Because of the wood combos, their tone is varied nicely with the Mahogany / Kingwood having more warmth than the punchiness of the walnut / ebony....

pointbass has the most well-rounded collection I've seen so far -- that's quite a range of types of bass there.

I pretty much got rid of any redundancy in my basses over the past few years. The two FBB's (fretless 6 & fretted 7) do the great majority of my classic rock and fusion gigs, the Barker bass is used primarily at the smaller jazz dates, the hollowbody gets used for living room-type jams with a few folky guitar playing friends, and the Z6 is my rehearsal & back-up bass for just about everything (it's very versatile). The fretless Goya I keep simply because it's just fun to play and has a great old-school tone ...

The only bass to possibly be added in the future is a fretless single course 8 string, at which time the fretless 6 will likely be retired. I have a prototype fretless 8 right now, which is pretty cool, but it has some construction issues that need to be sorted out ...

For me, I've never really understood the reasoning behind having 4 or 5 slightly differing variations of a J bass, but to each his own .....

all 4 strings/fretted/passive except as noted..... rickenbacker 4000 ,4004cii,v63(w/flats). danelectro hodad w/flats. 70's japanese jazz bass clone. aria sinsunido active fretless. i used to also have a peavey dynabass that i strung BEAD,but sold it...... the 3 rickenbackers all have different pickups,and have very different sounds.....

Am I missing something or are you taking a shot at Petch's great collection by saying your Lakland is equal to Petch's P, J, EBMM and Reverend?

I have 3 of the above (no Reverend) and I sold my 55-02 as I wasn't using it.

It is all personal preference, but I would play a Music Man or a Fender Jazz over a Lakland 55-01/55-02 any day based on personal gigging and recording experience with all of them.

-Hiding in the back is an 80s B.C. Rich N.J. Mockingbird that I've yet to assemble.
-Fender Geddy Lee Jazz (now with Lindy Fralin pickups, favorite bass).
-Fender Custom Shop Classic Jazz.
-80s Kubicki PJ, what a monster.
-5 String Fretless made by Kip Sophos (Bass player for Gil Paris).
-Ibanez GSR 200 (first bass).
-Squier Bronco (surprsingly nice).
-Ibanez EWB Acoustic.
-1984 Custom Shop Charvel Explorer.

Not in this picture are:
-Aria Sinsonido Travel bass (lent it out to a friend).
-(poorly) defretted Yamaha RBX-250II.
-Some new bass that someone is going to give me, no idea what it is yet.
