Pot doesnt have enough thread.

I have wished for this also at times, but alas, the missing material can never be put back. I'd let the pot float (and use it carefully) if I had to use the bass until I got a new one, rather than remove any wood.
Yes that wood is weak enough as it is, you don't want to go shaving more of it off.

In Europe you can try:

Mouser
Canford Audio
Radio Spares
Farnell
Das Musikding
Tube Amp Doctor

Two of those are in Germany, maybe more likely to ship to Ukraine?

Ps I have bought Alpha B50K pots from eBay, sellers spiratronics, pcarena-bristol

I got the bass and had to wait a year to bring it back to Ukraine.

I'll try the ones you mentioned. I just started playing this bass the other week. I can't wait 4 more months till I get back to Japan.

The missing material can never be put back? Hold my beer...

No doubt it'll be easier to source a replacement, but if you really wanted to, i bet you could rebuild the thread. You might have to get some brazing and machining skills, but never say never!

Alpha is a good maker of pots and they make whatever their big OEM customers order so I doubt there is an END to solid shafts. Please note - you COULD use a spilt/splined shaft instead of the solid. Either put the setscrew on top of the split or put something in the split so the setscrew doesn't squeeze it together. I do this all the time.

Be sure the threaded part of the pot is the right diameter - it could be larger or smaller than the one in your bass. If the new threads are too long, just put a second nut and washer on the bottom to set the height properly.

Good Luck!

I've used Alphas in the past with no disasters, but they don't inspire much confidence. I've noticed that in the last couple of years, I've ordered pots from well known suppliers who used to sell CTS, but have received Alpha or no-name pots in their place. Uggghhh...

I have this, unused but probably too small.

Thank you for the offer. I went to the hardware store and they actually had Loctite. I couldn't believe it. This is the country where I can't get mini hex keys for the bridge screw. Not one store had them.

At this moment, it seems like the nut is holding its place with the Loctite, as long as I don't turn it too abruptly or too hard.

Once again, thanks for the kind offer. If there is anything I can do for you in the future, let me know. I am in Ukraine and go back to Japan every 3-6 months. If you are ever in this part of the world, let me know.
I would be more than happy to show you around. Just for your information, avoid Ukraine during the winter like the plague. The government is so broke, they don't even bother cleaning the snow off the streets and falling icicles are still killing people by the dozens every year.

I had considered that the truly insane (like you or me, evidently) might try that, but ruled it out of my reply. :roflmao:

Agreed it would be nuts (excuse the pun). More seriously, is this a pot that can be disassembled? If yes, could you just take the threaded bit from a donor pot?

I have so many pots, I am going to break open a few and see how these things actually work. As written by JPDub, take parts from a donor pots and reassemble it.

I figure sometime in the future, my other bass guitar pots are going to make that dreaded crackling sound, I should just learn something while I have so many of these cheap things.
