Pot doesnt have enough thread.

Rereading the original post, could you just put a spacer between pot and guard, so only good thread is above guard? Depends if you need full post for the knob or not I guess.

It is the opposite. The only good thread showing above is less than a credit card thickness. Adding spacer will get rid of the thread all together but.....

I just realized, if I can somehow thread the post, I could add a spacer and use a smaller nut.
