pots for SD SPB-3

I am installing an SD SPB-3 in a P-Bass. Two Questions.
1. Are the pots identical for both tone and volume?
2. The standard, stock pot seems to be the 250K, but I have also read posts where guys are using 500K pots. Is that possible for any bass, or should I stick with the 250K?

This is my first electronics rebuild and I can't afford to burn up parts. Thanks.

1. Yes, but actually, you might want a linear taper on one and an audio taper on the other. I guess people on this board have differing, and even opposite opinions on this, so here is a thread on the matter: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545013

2. You can use whichever one will fit your tonal needs better. I would suggest 500K's personally, but here is a thread describing the difference:
