Power supplies: Let's have it out!

I use an isolated power supply unit (PP2+) but have to daisy chain off it to accommodate the number of pedals I have. The pedals that are alone and on the isolated channels don't make additional noise. Some pedals that are daisy chained do make noise.

If you don't have an issue with additional noise and your pedals of varying voltage demands are satisfied, then you should have no shame in purchasing a more cost effective powering situation. That said, isolated power supplies do serve a valuable function, even if that function may not be necessary for every situation.

yahp. i have the ***** Power. 's the DC-10 but all pretty and pink love the thing.

Cava - oh HELL yesh. i'm over ner El Cerrito, we practice in Oakland, and just that route there's enough burritos to EAT LIKE KINGS EVERY DAY and not get tired of Tortilla Surprises. eat like MEXICAN KINGS.

i LURV the Yarea.

I bought a 1500MA power supply at Radio Shack. Is this not "boutique" enough?

They're boutique enough to power my wireless rig. I haven't noticed any problems, other than the unit I have being white and thus visible in stage photos. It's built tougher than the pathetic wallwart that came with my wireless, at least.

For my pedals, I use the SKB Stage Five. Mainly because it was a gift so I already owned it when I put together my current rig, and because it came with adaptors and voltages suited to mixing my store-bought and home-built pedals on the same board.

If everyone built pedals with the same style plug and consistent voltages, I'd have been fine using the 1Spot or RadioShack adaptors with a daisy chain. It never occurred to me to take anything other than total draw in mA and 9v, 12v, or 18v in consideration for whether or not I should daisy chain my pedals. I've never even heard of some of the problems folks here are describing with pedals until just now.

Anyone uses Cioks power supplies? I was thinking of getting a Big John for myself, as it is quite reasonably priced.

I use the CIOKs AC-10- a great solution if you have any pedals that require and AC supply (2 different AC outlets at 9/12/16 volts), and still has plenty of useful DC power outs as well- 9/12/15 volts and a few high amperage outs. I had almost decided to stop looking for a suitable isolated supply for my board until I stumbled on a post about the CIOKs- I am surprised they are not more popular in the States...

yep. non-stacked Rusty is GOOD. i have everything running off my ***** Power, except for my M9. the Big Chocolate **** looks like it'll cover everything, finally power the M9 off it's own spot, gimme some AC for weird pedals, and still have s spot or two open for expansion.

GIMME.

lol.

does this count as Burly Tattoo'd Metal Dood?

i'm so.... so very PRETTY.

No, it is exactly the point.
You're saying a boutique PSU is smoke and mirrors.
I'm saying a boutique PSU is a practical and if I want to get rid of multiple wallwarts a NECESSARY thing for certain pedals I use. I cited three of those pedals. I don't run big enough boards that a surge strip or even a power bar filled with wall warts is practical. And if that surge protector of yours is any good by using it you just took back anything you gained in terms of footprint and cost with the 1 Spot.

A Voodoo Labs Power supply is around $170 bucks. I can get two 1Spot kits and a surge protector for less than $70. I'm saving roughly $100 bucks by going this route and I can power everything I use. Heck, if you're worried about space then don't put the surge protector on your board. Problem solved.
