Practice time guilt? .... anybody else?

if i stay in to practice, it's because i want to - no guilt involved whatsoever. it's not like i owe the great outdoors something

i used to go to local parks with my ubass and play or with a mikro unplugged, but these days i don't live close enough to parks i'm happy with to do that. come to think of it, our condo complex grounds truly are parklike with lots of old growth trees, tons of bushes and flowers, squirrels, a variety of birds and some park benches - maybe i could go outside and practice unplugged.

I sometimes bring my AGB out onto the porch on a nice day. The problem is that if the weather is nice, it's a virtual guarantee that at least one of my neighbors will be outside with a mower or blower or chain saw or something. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

A sunny day outside simply means that there's a nicer view outside my window when I'm practicing. That is all.

Now wife guilt on the other hand...

No I don't feel guilt anymore. If I want to do that, I just do that. But practicing to learn a song note for note is often heart breaking for me ... right now I try to learn a song from Dream Theater and just can't do it. It is very frustrating to me.

Otherwise when I play just for fun and create whatever, it feels liberating because I express myself.

Or just go for a walk or a bike ride.

Kinda have to use 3 fingers in some parts but not all the time.

Literally never once in the 30+ years I've been playing.

Then again I haven't "practiced" since I was a teenager. The 25 years since then I've been learning and playing songs.

Practicing outside is my new jam. On weekends and free afternoons I like to drive around looking for particularly pretty parks, and set myself up with a looper and a headphone rig, with a battery amp handy if I'm feeling sociable (which is basically never).

That way I'm not missing out on anything while I play, and can peoplewatch, cloudspot, take in the wildflowers, and play my tributes to what I see.
