Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

I have tried many many different flatwound brands over the years, and these are it for me. They are stiff, and they will demolish your fingertips and hands after two long sets, but hey...MAN UP and stick with 'em, they rule, like a thoroughbred stallion...worth the ride IF you can stay on!

I think I ordered the wrong gauge (45-105's). I played them last night but could only do one set. These are supposed to loosen up a bit....I hope? I had to get out my P-bass with Lo-rider nickels (45-105's) to finish the gig, since I had pain between my index and middle finger (I am a 80% finger player). Thinking I should've gotten the .095 set. Rats! I did like the sound, though.

I did the same thing. I did not really like the "regular" set and went to the "light" set with the .095. I really like these on my jazz. Not likely to replace the TI's on my P basses but these seem made for my jazz bass.

Fingertips? These things are the smoothest strings around! Switching between my P/GHS P flats and my J/Roto Swing Rounds, the latter always hurts the first few notes.

Thank you, but I was actually trying to make the point that I find them very comfortable to play, and a lot less fatiguing than most other strings ;)

Those aren't fake; that's what many people tell us, and was my findings as well. I played a set of flats years ago, and didn't like the stiffness. I just figured at that point that I wasn't a flats guy, and left it.

Threw on a set of our flats last September for a couple months of gigs, and was very surprised at how comfortable and flexible they were.

I really should have put a wink after the fake comment, sorry it was my dumb sense of humour... My GHS sets are not fake, and I really love them to bits... They are possibly the most comfy string I have used in 20 years of playing... So glad I tried them, after a year on one bass, I'm am totally smitten :)

Edit: I also tried flats years ago and also didn't like them back then, so it was a experiment to try the GHS P's (also the chromes and fender flats too) early last year that was a revelation !

Whats your favorite GHS flatwound.. pressure wound, brite or precision. Is there a difference in tension using the same gauges? I use precision flats and boomer roundwounds.

The only set of true flats we make are Precision Flats.

Brite Flats are actually a half/ground wound, which actually have more tension than comparable gauges, due to how they're made.

Pressurewounds are actually a special beast, where the cover wire is run through rollers when being made, which slightly flattens the wire. It's still a roundwound string, but has a mellow tone with little finger noise. These would be my favorite, as I find they bring out a lot of the nuances and character of each instrument I've put them on.

Are you the guy that played on the demo vids on YT? Because that were his exact words. :o

Well....my 3050's have been on for a month, and yes, they're tight! I even ordered a set of 3050M's just in case the tension was too much for me. I brought my 62-ish P bass to practice tonight and played through an Avalon U5 into a med sized auditorium P.A. The sound was huge! Vol and Tone set on ten and I was diggin' in.....couldn't get enough, it was perfect. Almost sounded like Ty Porter's sound on "Taking It To The Streets"......nice solid, thick, punchy fundamental tone. Cant wait for them to mellow out a bit more. I have played 5 other brands of flats and these are the schnitz!

Depends on which video you're referring to. If it's the one that has Dave Pomeroy (Nashville studio legend) in it, then no, that's not me.

If you're referring to the Pressurewound video that has some talking and then someone A/Bing the sound of new ones to broken in ones, then yes, that's me.
