I don't know about you guys, but I don't find them to be all that dark! They thump nicely in that they have a nice percussive impact but, on my fretless, anyway, they also sustain well and pull pretty fair harmonics. Better than I anticipated for a hex core. The mids are nicely present, too. Now, I can roll off the tone control and get that dark thump - it's in there - but I don't feel like it's all that's in there. I'm sure that instrument, setup, and individual technique all factor in, but I was looking for a flat that wasn't all "thump" and these have performed admirably for me. I've mentioned before that the B is a bit darker (and the E just a shade) than the rest of the set -- if I were being super picky and asking for a redesign, I'd look at that -- but the pitch definition and sustain are still good, and a certain amount of color change as you go down is to be expected and can be desirable.
Blah, blah. They're still my favorite strings overall on this bass - nice balance of tension, stiffness, attack/thump, and harmonic content.
