Pranking other Bands Thread

SO this isn't pranking other bands-just a band member. The guitarist and I would hide a giant black dildo (bought it for the pranking) in the drummer's stick bag during practices. He would be tearing it up on the drums and then drop a stick-go to grab another and get quite a surprise. We got him almost every practice for like two months.
We even did it at one show, he freaked out and threw it into the crowd. I'm not sure where it went but it had to be weird finding out what hit you in the face, lol!

Remembered another impromptu prank from waaaay back. Playing in an original band and we get a gig at a dinner dance for some electrical union. we're only supposed to play one set as theres a society band there for the rest of the night. The leader of the other band was a singer ( debateable) but was a phantom bass player as well. He asks me if it would be alright if he "used" my amp when they played. Mind you he wants to only run a cord into my amp, a SVT and fridge. He tells me to keep the volume off. I give him my unused channel and all is fine except this guys a fool. After our set, they came back on and since he's fakin' it with a Zim-Gar quality level bass, I queried my bandmates as to what would happen to him if all of a sudden, the notes started to come out of the amp. There's a curtain at the back of the amp and drum line so we ran a cord under the curtain, my friends fiddled about like they were packing up and went out to watch. I started to play along with the band and according to my friends went through some very funny faces while trying to figure out not only how sound was coming out behind him but why it matched everything so well. Turns out later in my career, I had to work for him. He was actually placed on the A F of M unfair: do not work for list. But the best thing that happened to him is the time a guitarist slipped a paper bag with an egg salad sandwich and a banana into his briefcase at the end of a Sunday night job, knowing that he probably wouldn't open it for a week. Couple of days later, he supposedly wen't to book a gig at a clients house and opened the briefcase and then just closed it.

I would totally do that. Thanks for the laugh.

So, a few weeks ago I was the first one to arrive to our practice space, as I always am. The rest of the guys are running late, as usual. Ive already unloaded and set up all my equipment, and am waiting inside with my friend Cindy, when they finally show up. Before they enter the hallway I shut off the light, close and lock the door. They get to the room and try to open it, as theyve seen my car in the parking lot no doubt. "Huh?" I hear them say, "The doors locked, maybe he walked to the store?" "Lets go get our stuff and bring it in the hallway."

I waited a few minutes til I could tell they were out of sight, opened the door and brought in some of the gear, then closed and locked the door again. "Where'd my kick drum go?" "Where's my guitar?" *snicker, snicker*

I wait for the silence again, and proceed to take in more gear. "What the... where's our gear? Is the back door (to the hallway) open?" The third time I tried it someone saw the door ajar, and I proceeded to slam it shut on them. I told them thats what they get for being late.

We used to have a bad shot war going on with one of our long time band friends. I don't know how it started.

We'd make it to their shows, they'd make it to ours, or we'd be on the same bill. Someone would buy a round of horrible shots (Clan MacGreggor, Olde Crowe, Early Times, well Tequila, etc) while the other band was playing.

Me: [hands singer and everyone else in the band a huge shot of Old Crow]
Lead singer: "What kind of shot is it?"
Me: "Crown Royal!"
Lead singer: "Oh thanks man, [to audience] Cheers everyone!" [sour, surprised, unhappy expression]

do that to a band playing all tube amps and you just bought yourself ALOT of expensive amps. Mybe with pedals boards but amps not a chance in hell I would do that to someone.

I still haven't tried this but I've always wanted to plug the guitar/bass amps into one of those "the clapper" things so when the crowd would applaud all there amps would turn on and off and on and off.

if someone i didnt know did anything to any of my gear that would or could cause damage of any degree, they would be needing medical insurance.

but if it was something non permanent non damaging and funny i would laugh too.

remember its all about respect, people and their gear.

I have done more than my share of this while touring but I don't know how much would be suitable for a public forum. I'll test the waters:
Once, while in Minneapolis I found two pornographic Polaroid pics sitting on the floor of a laundromat. These were extremely graphic close-up, homemade pics of a naked fat man's body in various states of arousal. We were on tour with this band from Chicago called Pegboy. I took the pics and put them in the lead singer's luggage. I forgot about it until we crossed the Canadian border and these guys were a couple hours late getting to the gig. When I asked about it, turned out the border cops had found the pics, asked the guy if it were him or one of his friends. He, of course, was clueless, and denied ever seeing the pictures before. The border guards proceeded to tear apart their stuff looking for more porn or any incriminating materials. Took them hours.

effin rad!!! lol i think more should be shared :D

Thanks Captain Obvious but I was thinking solid state amps, I like pranks but I'm not Satan

Again....I would never do anything permanent to anyone or their gear for a prank.

I believe Ive heard a story of someone hooking their PA up to one of those and cutting out the vocals with the audience's applause.

Just walk into a porn shop and buy one. Porn shop clerks are the LEAST judgemental people Ive ever seen. Or just have a chick go into the shop with you, they'll just think youre trying to enhance your sex lives.

I used to play with a keyboardist who had, to say the least, an over-enthusiastic left hand. Never left me any room. I had talked to him about this constantly, but he just wouldn't have it. Once I realized things weren't going to change, I had informed the band of my intentions to move on, which were met with more than a little hostility, mainly from the keytard. Insults, threats, that sort of thing.. It wasn't pretty.

So, on my "farewell" show, I decided to leave him with a parting gift. You see, he had one of those 300 pound "Workstations" (ie: a fancy sampling synthesizer which he never took the time to learn how to use properly). One of the features on this thing, was the ability to split the two halves of the keyboard into two different instruments. So what did I do?

I had an old disk kicking around from my immature high school days (yes, disk, not disc) full of weird animal noises, cuss words, various moans, groans, and the like. His keyboard had a disk drive on it, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see if I could turn the bottom half of the keyboard into a trigger for the sounds on the disk.

It ended up working perfectly. Every time he'd bring the left hand down, he would fill the room with "F**K--F**K - $H*T - MEOOOOOOOW -- UNNNGH".

It was beautiful. He was absolutely mortified, and he had no idea that anyone had done this on purpose :D

The best part? Since he never read the owner's manual, he couldn't figure out how to change it back!!

BEST PRANK EVER.

i go through a lot of vibrators (see my earlier post). there's six or seven broken ones floating around the practice space right now.

i asked the friendly staff at my local sex shop if we could work out some kind of "punch-card" arrangement: buy 9 vibes and get your 10th for free.

they said no.

They wouldnt negotiate a frequent buyers 15% off deal or something? What is the pron world coming to? It must be the economy.
