Tonight Scott Thunes was rushed to the hospital with chest pains. The preliminary diagnosis is unstable angina.

It can be treated with either medication or surgery, depending on the extent of the blockages. Angioplasty with stent or coronary bypass are the usual surgical procedures.

The Thuneses will know more on Monday. The fact that he wasn't immediately operated on is a good sign. Marin General Hospital has one of the best cardiac units in the nation.

If you don't pray, please send all the good vibes you can toward the Bay Area.

Aahh **** Tom, so sorry to hear. I'm sending all positive and healing vibes to Scott. I know this sounds crazy but......as you say...."The Thuneses will know more on Monday." is also a good sign too as they didn't feel the need for anything to be done before the real doctor gets back from his weekend. He 'will' play again. And you 'will' sit with him and have a conversation with him again. He 'will' be allright.

Having experienced my own coronary issues, and having seen my father through a quintuple bypass and my brother-in-law through a full-fledged infarction that brought him to within ten minutes of the Big Gulp, I can say you're right.

If Scott were in imminent danger, they wouldn't wait until Monday to do an angiogram. Currently they're working on the blockage with medication.

If that doesn't work, they move on to an angioplasty with a balloon stent, or they'll do a bypass.

I'm optimistic.

.... a couple people I've known have lately come up with serious cancer diagnosis, pancreatic and breast, and found out on return appointments that no cancer could be found.

Let's hope for the best for Scott and his family. I'm sure he's in good hands.

Marin General has one of the best cardiac departments in the country.

He had symptoms for a while (too long, but we men tend to ignore these things), so he definitely has issues. My hope is that he'll be fixed up and won't suffer permanent damage.

Things are looking like they might be headed in that direction. And heart damage can be reversed.
